On the afternoon of April 23, implementing the direction of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ho Chi Minh Museum organized the thematic exhibition "The Country is Full of Joy", in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Speaking at the opening of the Exhibition, Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, affirmed: Exactly 50 years ago, at 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 1975, after 55 days and nights of "lightning speed, boldness, surprise, and sure victory", the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, completely liberated the South, reunified the country, and gloriously ended 30 years of heroic resistance against foreign invaders by the Vietnamese people.

That is the greatest achievement of the cause of national liberation and protection of the Fatherland led by the Communist Party of Vietnam , headed by President Ho Chi Minh, one of the glorious and brilliant pages in the history of building and defending the country for thousands of years of the nation, opening the era of independence, freedom, unity, building and protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam for the goal of "rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization".

Thereby, rekindling the spirit of the Great Victory in Spring 1975 in the cause of building, developing and firmly defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, contributing to fostering the trust of all cadres, party members and people in the leadership of the Party in the new era of development - the era of national growth”, emphasized the Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum.

Delegates cut the ribbon to open the Exhibition.

With more than 300 images, documents, and artifacts, the content of the Thematic Exhibition is arranged in three parts:

Part I: “Aspiration for Peace” opens the Exhibition with the context after the Geneva Agreement in 1954. According to the spirit of the Agreement, Vietnam was divided into two regions, the North and the South, and would be unified by a free General Election in July 1956. However, with the plot to oust France to invade South Vietnam, turning the South into a defensive line to prevent and repel communism in Southeast Asia, the US imperialists tried to sabotage the Agreement, gradually escalating the invasion of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, were determined not to compromise and were determined to fight to unify the country. While the resistance war was still raging, President Ho Chi Minh passed away, leaving behind endless sorrow for the entire Party, people and army. The whole country turned grief into strength, continuously achieving many military victories, forcing the US to sign the Paris Agreement in 1973 to end the war and restore peace in Vietnam.

Part II: “The Great Victory of Spring 1975” shows the content: After the Paris Agreement, the US and the puppet government of the Republic of Vietnam remained stubborn and did not fully implement the signed terms. On the contrary, we resolutely fought to enforce the Agreement, stepped up and closely combined the struggle on three political, military and diplomatic fronts and continuously won resounding victories.

In early 1975, determining that the strategic opportunity had come, the Politburo decided to launch the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. On April 30, 1975, after 55 days and nights of offensives and uprisings, with a pace of “one day equals 20 years”, our army and people smashed the puppet government apparatus set up by the US, completely liberated the South, and reunified the country.

Part III: "Vietnam - reaching new heights" affirms: The great victory in the spring of 1975 opened a new period in the history of the nation: the period of independence, unification and progress towards socialism. In the first 10 years after the country was at peace and unified, Vietnam achieved certain achievements, but also encountered many difficulties and weaknesses.

The Renovation policy proposed by the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in December 1986 marked a fundamental turning point in Vietnam's development.

After 50 years of liberating the South, unifying the country and nearly 40 years of implementing the cause of Renovation, industrialization, modernization and international integration, our entire Party, people and army have achieved many important achievements, just as President Ho Chi Minh taught: "On the day of victory, our people will rebuild our country to be more dignified and more beautiful!"
