On December 14th, at the entrance to the Tran Dynasty historical site in Dong Trieu (Dong Trieu ward), the "Returning to Heritage" cycling race officially opened. The race was organized to celebrate the Yên Tử - Vĩnh Nghiêm - Côn Sơn, Kiếp Bạc complex of historical and scenic sites being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. The program was organized by the Provincial Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation in coordination with the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province and Head of the Organizing Committee of the race, said that the "Returning to Heritage" cycling race conveys a profound message: each wheel rotation is a connection with heritage, expressing gratitude to the past and a movement towards a green, sustainable future. Along the winding roads that follow the mountain slopes, the racers pass through the sacred spaces of Quynh Lam - Ngoa Van - Ho Thien - Yen Tu, where nature and spirituality blend harmoniously, reflecting the essence of this Buddhist land.
According to the organizers, this year's competition brings together 412 athletes from 55 cycling clubs in 18 provinces and cities, competing in 10 individual and 10 team events in both road cycling and mountain biking categories. Racers competed on a nearly 40km route from the Tran Dynasty historical site in Dong Trieu to the Yen Tu National Special Historical Site. The racers start from the gate of the Tran Dynasty historical site (Dong Trieu ward), passing through many historical and cultural sites bearing the distinct mark of the Tran Dynasty, such as An Sinh Temple, Trung Tiet Pagoda, Tran Dynasty Royal Temple, the mausoleum of the Tran kings... crossing scenic spots like Da Chong Mountain, Ho Thien Pagoda, Am Hoa Pagoda... before finishing at the intersection near Ha Kieu bus station (Yen Tu National Special Historical Site). This route is deeply rooted in Truc Lam culture and also presents a great challenge to the endurance, physical strength, and competitive spirit of each racer. Through this race, we aim to promote the image of Yen Tu - Ngoa Van in connection with Con Son - Kiet Bac and Vinh Nghiem, making it a unique cultural, sports, and tourist destination rich in humanistic values.
The event also serves as a community bonding day, where cycling clubs, locals, and tourists come together, spreading the spirit of solidarity and promoting sportsmanship following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh, while creating a healthy playground for the cycling movement nationwide. The organizers presented awards to the top-performing athletes who finished first in the boys' road race. The organizers awarded team prizes to the outstanding teams that achieved high results in the men's road race. According to representatives from Quang Ninh province, the race is not only a meaningful sporting event that contributes to connecting heritage, tourism, and the community, but also holds profound spiritual value as it is held on the occasion of the 717th anniversary of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong's passing into Nirvana, and to celebrate the recognition of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
