Honda Micro EV concept at JMS 2025: Detailed view

Honda brought to JMS 2025 a super small electric car concept with a minimalist philosophy: 2 seats, display via phone, many parameters not yet announced. Potential if commercialized.

The Honda Micro EV appeared at the Japan Motor Show 2025 (JMS 2025) as a concept highlighting the company's electrification vision. Although Honda did not announce measurements or specifications, the model attracted attention for its super small size, described as smaller than familiar mini models in Vietnam such as the VinFast VF 3 or Wuling MiniEV. The minimalist design from the outside to the inside, 2-seat configuration, and the philosophy of displaying information via phone are the points that make the Micro EV the center of attention.

Super small shapes, “fun” but consistent language

At first glance, the Micro EV is a compact, neatly proportioned vehicle with a “fun” design style. The front is impressive with the Honda logo placed in the middle, creating a detail described as a closed “pig nose”. The pair of round lights placed right below the windshield make the overall front look like a cartoon face, emphasizing the friendliness in the urban environment.

Honda did not provide dimensions. However, as observed at the showroom, the Micro EV is significantly smaller than the VinFast VF 3 or Wuling MiniEV. The compact body proportions and short front/rear overhangs suggest a minimalistic stance, aimed at short urban journeys.

Minimalist rear end, focused on recognition

In contrast to the cute front, the Micro EV's rear is restrained in details. The two vertical taillight clusters are the only highlight, along with a panel like a miniature trunk with the brand name engraved on it. This treatment helps the car keep a clean layout, limits unnecessary details, and fits the minimalist direction throughout.

Extremely minimalist cabin: steering wheel and a phone

Stepping into the cockpit, Honda continues to push the minimalist philosophy. The layout only has a steering wheel and a centrally mounted phone instead of a speedometer. According to the introduction at the booth, all operating information will be displayed on this phone, or on a digital panel integrated into the dashboard, mainly providing basic navigation prompts.

The bench seat for two, covered in plain white leather, emphasizes simplicity. The single-row, two-seat configuration fits the “enough” philosophy in a tight urban environment, while also saving space for minimal storage in the rear.

Performance and powertrain: not yet announced

Honda didn’t share any details about the Micro EV’s engine, transmission, or battery pack. Performance, range, or charging times weren’t announced at JMS 2025, which is consistent with the concept’s nature, where design philosophy and overall approach take precedence over technical numbers.

For a super-compact electric vehicle, the minimalist approach to the interface and interior layout shows that Honda emphasizes the “adequate” experience in the city. However, any assessment of specific performance capabilities will need to wait for official information from the company if the project moves to the commercialization stage.

Display technology: focus on basic navigation

The Micro EV’s display cluster is stripped down to a bare minimum. A centrally positioned phone acts as the main display, relaying operating information. A digital display strip integrated into the dashboard provides simple navigation prompts. Other than these components, the car was not introduced with other layers of technology at the event.

The minimal interface can help drivers focus on the driving task and the information that is truly essential for short trips. However, there is currently no information about active safety or driver assistance features on the Micro EV.

Usable space: 2 seats for urban needs

The two-seat bench seat shows that the Micro EV is aimed at simple everyday commuting situations. The single-row configuration creates space behind the seats for small items while reducing the complexity of interior layout. Combined with the ultra-compact exterior, the vehicle meets short-distance travel scenarios where compactness and flexibility are a priority.

Market outlook: potential concept if commercialized

Honda has not yet announced plans for commercial production of the Micro EV. However, the small form and minimalist style have the potential to be suitable for markets that favor this style such as Europe and Japan if developed into a complete product. In Vietnam, the Micro EV can join the popular wave of electrification, becoming a competitor in the small electric vehicle segment alongside the VinFast Minio Green, Wuling MiniEV or Bestune Xiaoma, if introduced.

With its super small size, 2-seat configuration and adequate equipment, Micro EV is considered a worthy choice for short-distance travel in urban areas. According to the perspective at the event, if priced reasonably when commercialized, the model can even replace motorbikes in certain usage situations.

Conclusion: a minimalist manifesto for urban electric vehicles

The Micro EV is Honda’s vision of an urban electric vehicle: compact, intuitive, and minimalist. The playful front end, restrained rear end, and cabin that only includes a steering wheel and a phone offer a very different take on the two-seater electric car. While technical specifications and production plans have yet to be announced, the concept offers a compelling approach to the micro-EV category. Commercial viability will depend on Honda’s decisions in the next phase.
