My Thuan 2 Bridge closed

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the closing ceremony of My Thuan 2 Bridge, part of the investment project to build My Thuan 2 Bridge and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge in Tien Giang and Vinh Long provinces .

This is the 5th time Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directly visited the site and encouraged relevant agencies, staff and workers constructing the My Thuan 2 Bridge project.

Accompanying the Prime Minister were Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang and leaders of ministries, branches and localities.

The My Thuan 2 Bridge and approach road construction project is one of 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway in the East phase 2017-2020, invested by Project Management Board 7 (Ministry of Transport). The project started on March 16, 2020 and will be put into operation by the end of 2023.

This is a national key project, a special-grade road traffic project, with a total investment of more than 5,003 billion VND from the state budget.

My Thuan 2 Bridge Project is located on the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, connecting the two expressways Trung Luong-My Thuan and My Thuan-Can Tho, connecting the two provinces of Vinh Long and Tien Giang, is a vital road with the largest traffic volume among the main national highways in the region.

The Prime Minister and delegates performed the closing ceremony of My Thuan 2 Bridge.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the main span of My Thuan 2 Bridge with a cable-stayed structure spanning 350 m, a navigation clearance of 37.5 m, and a bridge deck width of 28 m (including 6 lanes), was for the first time entirely carried out by a team of Vietnamese engineers and workers from project planning, design to construction.

The project was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The double impact of political fluctuations in the world caused high fuel prices and increased material prices (iron, steel, stone, cement, etc.) which affected the construction and implementation of the project.

On the other hand, objective technical difficulties during the construction of complex items of the main bridge, weather conditions significantly affecting the construction techniques of girder and cable-stayed systems, all of the above factors have posed many challenges to Project Management Board 7, the consulting unit and the construction contractor.

The Prime Minister commended relevant ministries, agencies, localities, contractors and consultants for promoting a sense of responsibility, making efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, and shortening the construction time by at least 3 months compared to the plan .

With the strong and regular direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, as well as the support and close coordination of central and local ministries and branches; at the same time, synchronous solutions to overcome difficulties have been implemented as well as the efforts of the advisory agencies of the Ministry of Transport, Project Management Board 7, consulting units, and construction contractors, My Thuan 2 Bridge has met all the conditions for bridging, ensuring the geometric parameters of the main cable-stayed span, construction quality requirements, labor safety, etc.

The Prime Minister talked, encouraged and gave gifts to engineers and workers at the construction site of My Thuan 2 Bridge .

At the closing ceremony, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the My Thuan 2 Bridge project - a bridge bearing the Vietnamese brand, which was carried out entirely by a team of Vietnamese engineers and workers from the project planning, design to construction. This is very commendable when in the past, when building the My Thuan 1 Bridge, we had to use foreign units in the design and construction stages and depended on foreign technology.

The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, relevant ministries, agencies, localities, the contractor Trung Nam Group, and the consulting unit for promoting a sense of responsibility and making efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges related to the pandemic, prices, weather, etc. in constructing this project; thereby shortening the construction time by at least 3 months compared to the plan and shorter than that of My Thuan 1 Bridge.

After the closing, the Ministry of Transport continues to direct Project Management Board 7, consulting units and construction contractors to promote the highest sense of responsibility, focus on completing the remaining items to open the project to traffic by the end of 2023, ensuring the quality of the project and maximizing investment efficiency.

My Thuan 2 Bridge will connect the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, creating a close connection between the southern economic and commercial center and the Mekong Delta provinces .

At the same time, the Prime Minister requested relevant agencies and units to continue to promote the implementation of other expressway projects in the Mekong Delta region to ensure progress and quality.

Upon completion, My Thuan 2 Bridge will connect the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, creating a close connection between the southern economic and commercial center and the Mekong Delta provinces, contributing to the completion of the transportation and logistics system in the region, while reducing the increasing traffic pressure on the existing My Thuan Bridge and National Highway 1A, meeting the increasing demand for freight and passenger transportation, creating conditions to promote economic growth, cultural and social development in the Southwest region.
