On the morning of July 11, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) held a meeting to celebrate the 234th anniversary of the French Republic's National Day (July 14, 1790 - July 14, 2024), demonstrating the solidarity and friendship between the people of the city and the people of France.
In her congratulatory speech, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, President of the Vietnam-France Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, said that Vietnam and France have a relationship with a long tradition and deep historical and cultural ties.
Over the 51 years since the establishment of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations, overcoming all historical fluctuations, the friendly relationship and good cooperation between the two countries have become increasingly strong, deepened, and achieved comprehensive, rich, and effective cooperation in all fields.
Cooperation between localities has become a unique feature in Vietnam-France relations since the early 1990s.
To date, over 38 localities at all levels in France and 18 provinces and cities in Vietnam have participated in cooperation under this mechanism with 240 decentralized cooperation projects between localities of the two countries, mainly in the fields of health, education , heritage conservation, Francophone community, rural development, and urban development.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, a typical example of local cooperation between Vietnam and France is the twinning relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Lyon city and the Rhône-Alpes region.
The friendly and cooperative relationship between the two cities was established in 1997 and has been implemented in priority areas such as conservation and promotion of heritage values, urban planning and development, urban transport and especially urban lighting.
Meanwhile, the Rhône-Alpes region and Ho Chi Minh City have been effectively implementing cooperation projects in the fields of urban planning, healthcare, education and vocational training.
Thanking the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations for organizing a meaningful meeting to celebrate a historic event for the French people, Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser, Consul General of the Republic of France in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed her joy at seeing so many Vietnamese people in the city who know French and love France, especially in the context of the upcoming Francophone Summit in France.
Vietnamese people who know French are a bridge between Vietnamese and French culture and are an active contributor to strengthening and developing the friendly exchange between the two countries.
The French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City said that 100 Vietnamese students will receive scholarships to study in France in the new school year, making Vietnam the third country in terms of the number of students studying in France.
Also this year, France is pleased to welcome a delegation of Vietnamese athletes to France to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser emphasized that France-Vietnam exchanges are not only limited to the fields of higher education and sports but will be continuously promoted in all areas such as economic, scientific, cultural and artistic cooperation.
The France-Vietnam relationship is also based on the presence of a large and dynamic French community working and living in Ho Chi Minh City, participating in all social fields, actively contributing to the dynamic development of Vietnam's economy./.
