The Italian Film Festival Week in Ho Chi Minh City 2025 (organized by the Italian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with other organizations) will introduce to the City's audience a series of outstanding works of contemporary Italian cinema, spanning many genres from drama, comedy, to documentary and thriller. In addition to the screenings, audiences will have the opportunity to participate in talk shows after each screening with experts, and exchange sessions with directors and producers.

At the opening ceremony on the evening of October 26, Ms. Alessandra Tognonato, Consul General of the Republic of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City shared: “After the remarkable success of the 2024 Film Festival, we are proud to bring back a new Festival season to honor Italian cinema - a wonderful journey through the realms of emotion, creativity and imagination”.

Cinema is not just an art form, but a mirror of our culture, society and identity, says Alessandra Tognonato. It shows who we are, our passions, our conflicts and our humanity. And cinema is constantly evolving, connecting the past and the future, tradition and innovation.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat, representative of the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City, the Italian Film Festival in Ho Chi Minh City is not only an opportunity to honor typical Italian cinematographic works, but also a forum for cultural exchange, where images and emotions become a common language, connecting two nations with rich artistic and creative traditions.

Each film from Italy is an artistic journey rich in humanity, reflecting the cultural depth and soul of a passionate, delicate and emotional nation. Through poetic and philosophical frames, Vietnamese audiences have the opportunity to discover a modern and profound Italy, where love, memory, aspiration and freedom blend with people's inner thoughts and dialogues.

Ms. Alessandra Tognonato, Consul General of the Republic of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, added: The six films selected for this Film Festival represent a new season of Italian cinema - diverse in color, with captivating storytelling and extremely profound.

“Each of these films is a piece of Italy – landscapes, sounds, emotions – shared with the world . Together, they show that Italian cinema remains faithful to its roots and is constantly innovating,” said Alessandra Tognonato.

During the opening ceremony, the audience enjoyed the work “Vermiglio” directed by Maura Delpero. This is a film about love and memories in the romantic Italian Alps, where silence hides both pain and hope.

The film moved audiences worldwide and became the winner of the Silver Lion at Venice 2024, along with 7 awards at the David di Donatello Awards (known as the Italian Oscars), and was also Italy's choice for the 2025 Academy Awards.

During the Italian Film Festival Week in Ho Chi Minh City (October 26 to October 31 at Galaxy Nguyen Du Cinema), audiences will see Margherita Vicario’s “Gloria!”, which transforms a convent into a stage for music, rebellion and female creativity; Claudio Giovannesi’s “Hey Joe,” which explores the fragile bond between a father and son separated by life and fate.

Meanwhile, Marco Tullio Giordana's “La Vita Accanto” celebrates music as salvation and resilience, while Giovanni Tortorici's “Diciannove” offers an intimate look at a dynamic young generation searching for its voice.

And finally, Valerio Mastandrea's “Nonostante” reminds us that even in pain, there is beauty, tenderness and rebirth.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat, representative of the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the context of the City implementing the Strategy for developing cultural industries and aiming to become a Creative City of Cinema in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the cooperation between the Consulate General of Italy and the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City has a particularly great significance.

It is not only a cultural diplomatic relationship, but also a symbol of dialogue, cooperation and sustainable development in the creative industry, an important pillar of modern social development.

The partnership of the partners is a testament to the influence of Italian cinema in Vietnam, continuing to promise to create a complete and impressive Italian Film Festival season in Ho Chi Minh City.
