VFF strongly reacts to the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship mistaking the Vietnamese national flag

On the afternoon of October 28 (Vietnam time), the Organizing Committee of the draw ceremony for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship and the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship had an unfortunate incident when they mistakenly used the Vietnamese national flag. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has officially responded to this incident.

Accordingly, during the draw ceremony in Nonthaburi, Thailand, the organizing committee mistakenly printed the Chinese national flag in Vietnam's draw. On the evening of October 28, VFF sent an official document to the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) as well as the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to protest and request clarification of the above incident.

In a document sent to the AFF, the VFF stated that this serious incident could have consequences that affect Vietnam's image and negatively impact the solidarity of the ASEAN community. The VFF also requested the AFF to clarify the cause of the incident and ensure strict measures to prevent similar mistakes from happening again in future events.

VFF expressed confidence that AFF is also fully aware of the seriousness of this incident and will handle it with the highest sense of responsibility, caution and professionalism.

It is known that the draw ceremony was attended by FAT Vice President, Mr. Adisak Benjasiriwan and Mr. Surasak Meemanee, Head of the tournament organizing committee. According to the draw results of the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, the 7 participating teams were divided into two groups. Group A includes: Thailand (seeded in group A), Vietnam, Brunei; Group B: Indonesia (seeded in group B), Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship will take place from December 23 to 29, 2025 at the Nonthaburi Provincial Gymnasium (Thailand). Meanwhile, the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship will have 5 participating teams including Thailand (host), Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei.

The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine the two best teams to advance to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams will play for third place. The tournament will be held at the same venue as the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, in Nonthaburi (Thailand).
