Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha held an urgent meeting to direct the response to historic floods in Da Nang.

Also attending were Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang; leaders of central ministries and branches; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Pham Duc An; leaders of Military Region 5 and city departments and branches.

Reporting at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Nam Hung said that thanks to proactively implementing early response work, the city has minimized direct damage caused by heavy rain. Natural disaster prevention and control work has been deployed synchronously according to the "4 on-site" motto.

Communes and wards strictly implement flood prevention plans, focusing on evacuating people in dangerous areas; at the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to support and help each other during the evacuation process.

The city has urged people to prepare enough food for the prolonged rainy and flood days. The government and functional forces are actively providing support, especially to isolated areas.

The People 's Committee of Da Nang City proposed the Deputy Prime Minister and leaders of central ministries and branches to support the city in many important matters. In particular, for the coastal area of Hoi An, which is seriously eroded for about 5 km, the central government needs to pay attention and support sustainable solutions.

In addition, many mountainous traffic routes have suffered major landslides, potentially posing a safety risk if not promptly invested in and reinforced. The city is compiling data to report to the Government and relevant ministries and branches.

The leader of Military Region 5 said that the unit has mobilized 7,829 officers and soldiers of the armed forces, including regular soldiers and more than 5,000 militia and reserve forces, along with more than 7,000 cars, canoes, boats, and communication vehicles to participate in flood response in Da Nang and Quang Ngai.

In Tra Leng commune, Military Region 5 established a Forward Command Center to direct the evacuation and relief work for the people. In flooded and isolated areas, Military Region 5 has arranged 30 canoes and boats of various types to ensure rescue work, transportation of necessities and medical supplies.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged and commended the proactive and urgent spirit of the Da Nang city government, as well as the effective coordination of the armed forces of Military Region 5 in responding to floods.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that in the context of increasingly extreme natural disasters, it is necessary to change the mindset in disaster prevention work, shifting from passive response to proactive, sustainable and long-term adaptation.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested Da Nang city to continue to strongly implement fundamental solutions, enhance forecasting capacity, invest in infrastructure to prevent flooding and landslides, and ensure safety for people.

For Military Region 5, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the unit to proactively coordinate and support localities, promptly report to the Government on issues beyond its authority so that appropriate direction and support measures can be taken.
