Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on May 23, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reiterated his view that Ukraine and the West must pursue peace talks with Russia to end the current conflict.
“First, all sides should cease fire. Let's talk about a new security structure for the European continent," Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.

“The only peace agreement that can end this whole conflict is between Russia and the United States. What is at stake is the future security of Europe. It is clear that without the United States there is no security structure for Europe, and now the conflict can only stop if Russia and the United States reach an agreement,” said Viktor Orban.
Throughout the Ukraine conflict, Mr Orban has repeatedly spoken out against Western policy, which has provided military aid to Kiev and sanctioned Russia. He has argued that EU policy risks escalating the conflict into a global war, stressing that EU policy is doing more harm to the European economy than to Russia.
The Hungarian prime minister also argued that only Washington could pressure Kiev to come to the peace negotiating table.
Mr. Viktor Orban once said that the military conflict in Ukraine will end as soon as the US and the European Union stop providing financial support to Kiev.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has been going on for more than a year and there is no end in sight. The West continues to pump weapons into Ukraine to fight against Russia. Russia believes that the decision of the US and NATO countries to supply tanks to Ukraine makes negotiations between Russia and Ukraine “meaningless”.
Russia has repeatedly accused the US and its allies of deliberately trying to prolong the conflict, warning the West not to provide weapons to Ukraine, stressing that this would only escalate the conflict and cause unnecessary casualties without changing the situation of the war.
