After many years of struggling with corn and cassava, with high production costs but unstable income, Mr. Dao Van Sau (H'Mong ethnic group, in Noh Prong village, Hoa Phong commune, Krong Bong district) decided to find a new direction.
After researching, Mr. Sau boldly tried to convert the area of barren hill land to grow dó bầu trees. An acquaintance introduced him to M'Drắk district to buy 1 kg of seeds to grow. Due to lack of experience, after a short time of planting, dó bầu trees were damaged by leaf-eating worms, and the survival rate of the trees was only 40%. Many people in the village thought that Mr. Sau was "abnormal" for bringing this "strange" tree to grow.

Undeterred, Mr. Sau learned pest control techniques and focused on taking care of the remaining trees. On the damaged Aquilaria trees, he intercropped corn. After 8 years of planting, his family's Aquilaria trees had a diameter of 15 cm or more, and could apply the technique of drilling holes to create agarwood. However, because he did not yet understand the technique of creating agarwood from biological products, in July 2024, he agreed to sell them to a trader for 1 million VND/tree, with a contract to keep them in his field for 12 months so they could plant biological products. So far, the buyer has harvested agarwood, and his family alone has earned 400 million VND. The bigger gain is that Mr. Dao Van Sau has learned the technique of planting agarwood-creating products on Aquilaria trees.
Similarly, Mr. Hau Van No (same Noh Prong village, Hoa Phong commune, Krong Bong district) also boldly switched to planting 1,000 dó bầu trees. When placing dó bầu in the ground, he built a hut right in the field, regularly monitored the growth of the trees, detected pests and promptly treated them, so the survival rate of the trees reached 100%.
Recently, Mr. Hau Van No sold 200 trees to a trader; at the same time, he studied the technique of planting biological products to create agarwood to apply to the remaining 800 trees of his family. A good sign, after 10 months of planting, on the trunks of his family's dó bầu trees, there was agarwood hair, promising that in the near future, his family will earn billions from this crop.
