On October 1, the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command announced that it had established a forward command post at Border Guard Squadron 1 (Bac Trach Commune) and a search facility in Cua Viet Commune. These two facilities are to search for the 8 missing fishermen.
The forward command post in Bac Trach is under the direct command of the Department of Search and Rescue, General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Military Region 4 Command and Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee. The forward command post in Cua Viet is directed by Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee.

The forces participating in the search include 2 ships of the Standing Militia Fleet with 40 officers; 6 boats of Quang Tri Border Guard with 44 soldiers; SAR 631 ship of the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 2 with 17 crew members; and hundreds of soldiers, police, and mobile militia searching along the shore.

The search area expanded from Gianh port, Cua Viet port to the sea area of Con Co special economic zone.
Initial information, at about 11:30 p.m. on September 28, two fishing boats were anchored to avoid storm No. 10 on the northern bank of Gianh River (Bac Gianh Ward, Quang Tri) when their anchors broke and they drifted freely in the fierce waves. Before that, 11 fishermen returned to the boat to check with 2 people on duty during the storm when the accident happened.

Four fishermen were lucky enough to drift ashore, exhausted but alive. The remaining nine were missing in the rough seas. Searchers have found three bodies and are currently searching for six missing.

Regarding the ship sinking incident in Cua Viet, the rescue team saved 9 fishermen, 2 of whom are still missing.
