On December 29, Iran arrested a suspect accused of being involved in a suicide bombing that killed a police commander in an attack in the coastal city of Bandar-e Lengeh in Hormozgan province.

The attackers were linked to “takfiri” groups – a term used by Tehran to refer to Sunni Muslim jihadist groups.
Also on December 29, the separatist jihadist group Ansar al-Furqan claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group claimed responsibility for a 2018 attack on a police station in Chabahar, Sistan-Baluchistan province, which borders Hormozgan, that killed two officers.
In October, 10 Iranian police officers were killed in an attack in Sistan-Baluchistan, a region long plagued by unrest.
The Pakistan-based Sunni Islamist jihadist group Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for the attack.
