On September 20, the organizing committee of GMA (Gods of Martial Arts) decided to strip the title of 55kg Cobra God of Martial Arts from Samuel Cung from Myanmar.
The reason is because Samuel Cung withdrew from the international title match for an unsatisfactory reason, refusing to face the Vietnamese "Cobra God" - Nguyen Hoang Thach.
According to GMA regulations: The Cobra Belt still belongs to the fighter who won it, but the title, a symbol of strength, honor and warrior spirit, is only valuable when the fighter maintains his composure in the ring. Once he chooses to retreat, the title will be stripped away.
This is not just a decision, but an affirmation: the title of God of War is not for those who back down!
In response to GMA's announcement, Samuel Cung explained: "I don't make excuses, but I don't refuse to compete. I just want to focus on my studies and the upcoming graduation exam. I said I would compete after I graduate."
Samuel Cung is the second boxer to have his title stripped by GMA - Than Vo Viet Nam. A day before, Johnny Tri Nguyen - the show's general director - also decided to strip Ha The Anh of his title. The reason is that Ha The Anh returned his belt and will not compete anymore because he has other upcoming plans.
Ha The Anh is the boxer who just defended his Tiger 68kg belt on September 6 at GMA Arena (HCMC). According to the event plan, Ha The Anh will meet Thai boxer Chayut Rojanakat in the Tiger 68kg category at the international event Than Vo. Samuel Cung will meet Nguyen Hoang Thach in the Cobra 55kg category.
Two consecutive Vietnamese Than Vo champions withdrew due to personal reasons, shocking Vietnamese MMA fans. They asked what was happening to the tournament, which Johnny Tri Nguyen was the general director of. What were the commitments, agreements, and signings?
