In the future, this trend will continue to explode at the Korean-standard entertainment space K-Town, Mega Grand World in the East of Hanoi (belonging to the "destination city" Ocean City).
Korean trends that once took Vietnam by storm
In 1997, the Korean TV series “Doctor Brothers” was released in Vietnam. Following that, a series of blockbusters such as “Glass Slippers”, “Stairway to Heaven” or “Winter Sonata”… also “stole” the hearts of millions of Vietnamese audiences.
In the 1990s, we could easily see images of Korean idols everywhere, from restaurants for young people, entertainment centers, books and magazines for teenagers; or even hair salons to fashion stores... Jeju Island suddenly became the dream tourist destination of many young couples. From the first impressions, the Korean wave Hallyu quickly reached many new peaks in the years 2000, 2010 and became a "hot" trend not only in Vietnam but also globally.
According to a recent announcement by the Korea Foundation, survey results from 18 countries around the world show that the number of fans of the Korean cultural wave (Hallyu) worldwide reached 178 million by 2022, an 18-fold increase from the 9.26 million recorded in 2012, when the survey was first conducted. In Asia alone, China is the country with the largest number of fans with 84.3 million, Thailand has 16.8 million and Vietnam is in third place with 13.3 million fans.
In Vietnam, the influence of the Hallyu wave has expanded to a series of "money-making" fields such as entertainment, business, fashion, cuisine... In fact, throughout Vietnam, it is easy to see famous Korean brands occupying prime positions in many big cities, such as CGV cinemas of CJ Group, Korean-style restaurants such as Gogi House, Dokki, Korean cosmetics and beauty brands, Tous les Jours bakery, GS25 convenience store,... From the cultural wave, Hallyu now opens up great business opportunities for many Vietnamese people.
