Opening of the second exchange program "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends"

( Bqp.vn ) - On the morning of December 18, the second "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" exchange program in 2024 officially opened in Hanoi. Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard chaired the opening ceremony.

Attending the opening ceremony were Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai, Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard; representatives from the China Coast Guard, the Cambodian National Maritime Security Commission, the Indonesian Coast Guard, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Thai Maritime Command Center; representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), etc.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao said that in December 2022, the Vietnam Coast Guard organized the first exchange program "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends". The exchange program was a great success, creating an opportunity for the Vietnam Coast Guard and maritime law enforcement forces of other countries to exchange, discuss, enhance understanding and cooperation; as a basis for continuing to build coordination and cooperation programs in the future. After the success of the first exchange program, the Vietnam Coast Guard realized that the cooperative relationship between maritime law enforcement forces in the region is increasingly developing; exchange activities, organizing ship visits, joint patrols, and joint training between the Vietnam Coast Guard and law enforcement forces of other countries in the region have been organized more regularly, with more diverse content and forms.

Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao emphasized that non-traditional security issues at sea are increasing, such as: Maritime security and piracy, armed robbery; smuggling, trade fraud and drug crimes; illegal immigration; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. At the same time, in recent years, the weather situation in the region has been complicated and unpredictable, negatively affecting traffic and business at sea, causing damage to vehicles, ship sinking incidents, affecting the lives and property of individuals and organizations operating at sea. In that context, the Vietnam Coast Guard always aims for the highest goal, which is to cooperate with relevant Vietnamese authorities and maritime law enforcement forces in the region to join hands "For secure, safe and clean seas", building peaceful, stable, friendly and cooperative seas for mutual development.

Realizing that desire, in 2024, the Vietnam Coast Guard will continue to organize the second "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" exchange program with the message "Unity is strength". The program has been innovated and improved by the Vietnam Coast Guard in both content and form; believing that it will continue to bring opportunities for maritime law enforcement forces of participating countries to meet, exchange, and enhance understanding; open up areas and cooperation activities in the coming time to go deeper, more practical, and more effective; build trust, create high consensus in the process of coordination and cooperation in performing tasks, join hands for peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable seas for the country and the region.

Within the framework of the second exchange program "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends", in 2024, the following contents will take place: A courtesy call to the Minister of National Defense of Vietnam; a bilateral conference between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the delegations; sideline meetings between the delegations; a visit to the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024... In particular, the Gala night "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends" with the theme "Unity is strength" is considered the highlight of the exchange program. It is expected that the Gala night will have impressive exchanges, unique cultural and artistic performances, speeches and sharing by leaders and heads of maritime law enforcement forces of 07 countries and international organizations participating in the program.
