Opening of the 7th World Vovinam Championship in Vietnam

Vietnam national Vovinam team athletes perform "The Quintessence of Vovinam - The Quintessence of Vietnamese Martial Arts".

The event was attended by more than 650 officials, referees, coaches, and athletes from 35 countries with developed Vovinam movements in 4 continents: Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.

Athletes will compete in 44 sets of boxing and combat medals including 26 boxing events and 18 combat weight categories.

The event held in Vietnam this time is even more meaningful as this is the occasion when Vovinam is implementing many activities to celebrate the 111th anniversary of the birth of Founder Nguyen Loc; the 85th anniversary of the founding of the sect and to welcome the successful WVVF World Vovinam Federation Congress for the 3rd term (2023 - 2027); and the 325th anniversary of the founding of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City (1698 - 2023).

More specifically, Vovinam Viet Vo Dao has just been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is the premise to move towards making Vovinam a World Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Vovinam has been and is an important messenger and means of effective cultural diplomacy of Vietnam to promote the image of the country - people - Vietnamese culture with strong national identity to international friends.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has awarded the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate to Vovinam Viet Vo Dao.

Mr. Mai Huu Tin, President of the World Vovinam Federation and President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, said: currently, there are 51 countries with representatives participating in the World Vovinam Federation, of which 35 countries sent delegations to participate in this World Vovinam Championship.

At the opening ceremony, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the Vovinam Viet Vo Dao Certificate as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage to the Vovinam Viet Vo Dao sect.

At the opening ceremony, the Vietnamese national Vovinam team and international athletes representing 04 continents performed together "The Quintessence of Vovinam - The Quintessence of Vietnamese Martial Arts", with many attractive, unique and surprising performances.
