Opening of the National Library Staff Festival to promote reading culture and introduce books in 2025

Attending the ceremony were Ninh Thi Thu Huong, Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism); Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Director of the Department of Culture - Arts, Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; Kieu Thuy Nga, Former Director of the Department of Libraries, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Nguyen Tuan Ha, Permanent Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of relevant agencies and units across the country and more than 1,000 delegates who are librarians of provincial and municipal libraries, armed forces libraries, and university libraries across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library Ninh Thi Thu Huong said that the Festival is an opportunity for librarians nationwide to apply their skills in introducing books, promoting documents, books and newspapers about historical traditions, the heroic struggles of our army and people in the cause of building, protecting, innovating and developing the country; thereby contributing to raising awareness,educating all classes of people, especially the young generation about the tradition of patriotism. At the same time, it is a useful playground for librarians to express their love for the profession, meet, exchange experiences, spread good models, new and creative ideas in the journey of bringing books to readers.

In his welcoming speech, Standing Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Ha stated that the Festival held in Dak Lak province is a valuable opportunity for each cadre in the province as well as other provinces and cities to exchange, learn, and equip themselves with new experiences, knowledge, and skills to continue to foster love for the profession and enthusiasm for work; contributing to the goal of developing a reading culture in the community, spreading human knowledge, and building a learning society.

The festival lasted from May 27 to 30 with the participation of 800 librarians from 33 delegations, representing more than 10,000 librarians from provincial/municipal libraries, armed forces libraries, and university libraries nationwide.

Each delegation's competition program lasts from 30 to 35 minutes, including 4 parts: Introducing the team; introducing books; introducing an innovative experience or a new, effective model in developing a reading culture and serving lifelong learning in the locality, agency, or unit; and talent competition.

Within the framework of the Festival's activities, a number of libraries, publishers, and book companies participated in displaying books, newspapers, and documents on the 50th anniversary of the Central Highlands Campaign, the Great Spring Victory in 1975, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; on the cause of innovation and development of the country after the liberation of the South and national reunification, along with typical images in the activities of developing a culture of reading and lifelong learning of the library system nationwide.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee mobilized book gifts with a total value of 280 million VND from the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security; Military Library; Institute of Social Science Information - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam Education Publishing House, Vietnam Book Culture Knowledge Joint Stock Company (Vinabook), Tre Publishing House to support the construction of grassroots libraries serving ethnic minorities in Dak Lak province and a number of provincial and municipal libraries.
