
The final round of the 18th National Press Awards 2023 opened on the morning of May 31 in Hanoi .
In his opening speech, Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association , Chairman of the National Press Awards Council stated: This year is the 18th year the Award has been held, with many new members in both the Preliminary and Final Councils.
According to the report of the Preliminary Council, the number of works submitted to the Award this year is still the highest in recent years. The 73 members of the Preliminary Council, divided into 11 sub-committees, worked with professionalism, high sense of responsibility, strictly implemented the regulations, instructions and regulations of the Award, conducted appraisal, scoring and submitted to the Final Council a list of 165 works in 11 award categories, selected from 1,905 works submitted to participate.
According to journalist Le Quoc Minh, in 2023, the world situation will continue to have rapid and complex changes. In the country, 2023 is an important year in implementing the goals of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. The work of building and rectifying the Party, studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style will continue to be promoted, achieving many achievements.
In that context, closely following the direction and leadership of the Party and the practical situation of the country, press work has achieved many important and outstanding results... Many press agencies have innovated, approached modern press technology, developed multi-platform, multimedia press and creative forms of press, to increase attractiveness, increase public access; accelerate the progress of digital transformation in the field of press and media.
Thanks to that, in addition to the central press agencies, some local newspapers and radio stations have changed the way they choose topics and themes and implemented them in a new and modern way, which was highly appreciated by the Preliminary Council for both quality and form of expression.

The report of the Preliminary Council shows that entering the 18th year, the prestige of the National Press Award is increasingly affirmed, the value of the award is widely spread throughout all levels of the Association and its members. The Award received positive responses from all levels of the Association, individual journalists, and members; attracting the participation of 18/21 Inter-Association Branches, 30/223 affiliated Branches.
Notably, 63/63 provincial and municipal Journalists Associations participated, with 1,905 works submitted, of which 1,827 works met the requirements, 127 works were written by authors who were not members of the Vietnam Journalists Association. This shows the strong attraction of the National Press Award and the strong interest and response of members and levels of Journalists Associations nationwide.
The works submitted to the Award closely followed major topics from politics, economics, culture, society, security, defense and all aspects of life in 2023. The press promptly and vividly reflected major events and important issues of the country with prominent topics such as efforts to implement the 2023 socio-economic development plan and the 2020-2030 socio-economic development strategy; Party building and rectification; inspection, supervision and control of power associated with the fight against corruption and negativity; fighting against wrong and hostile viewpoints; upholding the spirit of great national unity.
In addition, the press also covers historical topics, commemorating important events of the country; hot social issues, such as the terrorist attack in Dak Lak; anti-corruption in the vehicle inspection industry; consequences of mini apartments; the problem of cutting meals for students; deforestation and climate change...
Besides, the works also show examples of good people doing good deeds, "6 dares" cadres in difficult lands, ethnic teachers, great messengers,... with noble, convincing and touching gestures.
The preparation work was carried out by the Secretariat of the award in accordance with regulations, instructions, and on schedule, creating favorable conditions for the evaluation of works by the preliminary sub-committees.
The preliminary judging process was carried out urgently, seriously, strictly, in accordance with the instructions and regulations of the Award Council. The 11 subcommittees of the preliminary judging council worked impartially, transparently, upholding a sense of responsibility, completing the judging on time, achieving good quality. The preliminary results were fully summarized and sent early, creating better conditions for the final judging council to research and evaluate the works...
