Explore Hon Ba - the mountain peak surrounded by clouds by open-top bus

Việt NamViệt Nam19/06/2024

Hon Ba Peak (1,578m above sea level), where Dr. A. Yersin's office is located, is a destination for tourists who love to explore. Tay Thai Binh Duong Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company has just been allowed to re-exploit this attractive tourist route by open-top bus, helping visitors feel the cool air and natural beauty of Hon Ba Nature Reserve, along with the mark of Dr. A. Yersin in the green forest covered with clouds...

Exciting experience

After nearly 10 years, I returned to visit Hon Ba peak with a tour bus of Tay Thai Binh Duong Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company. From Kong Forest Tourist Park (Suoi Cat Commune, Cam Lam District), the open-top bus took visitors to the top of Hon Ba - where the world-famous scientist A. Yersin left his footprints. Still the same winding road, but with the open-top bus (mobile roof can be opened and closed at will) brings new experiences. Sitting in the car, it is easy to see the beautiful fern patches, the primeval forests with many large trees reaching up to the blue sky. Many visitors were amazed by the beautiful scenery on both sides of the road every time the car turned a hairpin bend, opening up new perspectives. Reaching an altitude of 700m above sea level, the cool air outside, the gentle wind blowing on the skin, the sound of forest birds chirping in the early morning sun... made visitors forget all the tiredness.

Visitors take souvenir photos in front of Dr. A. Yersin's house in Hon Ba.

During the journey, Kong Forest's tour guide provides visitors with useful information about the rich flora and fauna of Hon Ba. "Hon Ba Forest has 56 species of animals and 43 species of rare plants listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book. In terms of plants, there are precious species such as: red pine trees, pink slipper orchids... In terms of animals, Hon Ba is home to rare black-shanked douc langurs, pheasants, money chickens, brown hornbills, hornbills, star pheasants, red-faced monkeys, pig-tailed monkeys, black-cheeked gibbons, bears, flower monitors, banded kraits...", the tour guide shared. Then the story of Dr. A. Yersin using his reward money to hire people to open a path to the top of Hon Ba, building a wooden house to stay when he came here to do scientific research. Stories like that shortened the journey, and soon we saw Dr. A. Yersin's house in front of us.

Although more than 80 years have passed since Dr. A. Yersin passed away, his legacy in Hon Ba has been well preserved. His wooden house (restored about 20 years ago) stands out against the deep blue sky. Before starting to exploit it, Tay Thai Binh Duong Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company restored the surrounding landscape, as well as searched for more artifacts and images to display. The first floor of Dr. A. Yersin's office is decorated with photos and documents about his life; the second floor is arranged with objects associated with his life such as a desk, a set of tables and chairs where he used to receive guests in the past, and a small bed where he rested in a separate corner. There is an altar here so that when anyone visits the house, they can light an incense stick in memory of him... Traces of Dr. A. Yersin's research are still here, including the preserved nursery pots. Around Dr. A. Yersin’s house, hydrangea bushes, turmeric, and marigolds were replanted to add to the beauty of Hon Ba peak. Standing on the wooden house stained with time, visitors can see Nha Trang looming over the sea… and cannot help but think of his contributions to the coastal city.

Tourists check-in at Hon Ba.

During that trip, many tourists who came to Hon Ba for the first time were amazed by the beautiful scenery. They were absorbed in exploring Dr. A. Yersin's house and taking check-in photos from many different angles. "I really like the feeling of holding a cup of coffee and watching the scenery here, the space is so chill", Ms. Le Thanh Huyen (a tourist from Hanoi) shared. Attending the trip, Mr. Ngo Van Dinh - Vice President of Phu Yen Tourism Association happily expressed: "This is the first time I have been to the top of Hon Ba, I am really surprised that only about 40km from Nha Trang there is such a beautiful conservation area. I am really impressed when the operator uses very airy buses to transport visitors, helping visitors feel the fresh air and beautiful nature of Hon Ba throughout the journey. Especially, when standing here, looking towards the sea, I can see Suoi Dau Lake, Nha Trang and Bai Dai area (Cam Lam district) towards the sea".

After the Tay Thai Binh Duong Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company put the tour into operation, many tourists have registered for a tour to visit Hon Ba peak. To facilitate the registration of tourists, the company has arranged many time slots for visitors during the day. Visitors can register directly through the company's website, travel agencies in Khanh Hoa or contact the Hon Ba Nature Reserve Management Board. After 3 days of opening free tours (from June 14 to 16), Tay Thai Binh Duong Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company continues to have a preferential program for visitors to visit Hon Ba peak by bus (from now until June 30). Visitors can register through the website https://dulichhonba.com/booking-online/ or contact the hotline: 09758 07958 with the price: 150,000 VND/adult, 105,000 VND/child.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Duc - Vice President of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, the opening of a route to explore Hon Ba peak by open-top bus by Tay Thai Binh Duong Joint Stock Company is good news for travel agents. Khanh Hoa Tourism Association has launched the tour "Following the footsteps of Dr. A. Yersin" since 2022. However, because the itinerary only has destinations such as: A. Yersin Park, A. Yersin Museum (located in Nha Trang Pasteur Institute), Linh Son Phap An Pagoda, Dr. Yersin's tomb at Suoi Dau... but cannot visit Dr. A. Yersin's house in Hon Ba, this is a conservation area, so many tourists regret not being able to go to the top of Hon Ba to visit his house. “The provincial People's Committee's permission to pilot the Hon Ba peak tour has contributed to perfecting the tour "Following the footsteps of Dr. A. Yersin", maximizing the value of Dr. Yersin's heritage in building tourism products. In the coming time, the tourism industry will promote this tour more so that visitors know the value of Hon Ba as well as the contributions of Dr. A. Yersin to Khanh Hoa and Vietnam", Mr. Duc expressed.
