At the program, doctors examined, diagnosed and developed treatment regimens for children with congenital heart defects.
Cases that require surgery are put on the priority list of the “Scars of Life” program implemented by Vietnam Children's Fund, to receive free surgery support. Early detection and timely intervention help increase the chance of living a healthy life, learning and playing like other children.
From 2023 to June 2025, the program was implemented in 8 provinces and cities with more than 50 examinations per year, reaching over 39,000 children. Through screening, doctors discovered 281 cases of congenital heart disease, of which 168 children were assigned to early intervention or surgery.
In Thai Nguyen, this is the first time the Department of Health has coordinated with Vietnam Children's Fund Social Enterprise Company Limited and the Cardiovascular Center - Hanoi E Hospital to organize the program. To implement this, the Department of Health has sent a directive document to all wards and communes in the whole province, ensuring that the information is widely deployed.
