
The workshop is an opportunity to learn about the famous Pham Cong Tru (1600 - 1675) - a famous mandarin of the Later Le Dynasty who left many deep impressions in Vietnamese politics , economics, education and history, and at the same time honor his contributions to his homeland and country.
Pham Cong Tru was born in Lieu Xuyen village, Duong Hao district, Hai Duong town (now Nguyen Van Linh commune, Hung Yen province). In 1625, he passed the Si Vong exam, and in the Mau Thin exam, Vinh To 10th year (1628), he passed the Doctorate exam. During more than 40 years as an official, Pham Cong Tru served 5 Le kings and 2 Trinh lords, taking on many important positions such as Tham Tung, Lai Bo Thuong Thu, Le Bo Thuong Thu, Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si..., contributing to consolidating the dynasty, correcting the law, encouraging education and renovating Thai Hoc.
His talent and qualities were highly appreciated by King Le and Lord Trinh. Therefore, although he asked to retire and return to his hometown, not long after, the court invited him back to work. Today, his name and hometown's place name are still preserved on the Doctor's stele at the special national relic Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam.
At the conference, the delegates also provided a lot of useful information, affirming that Pham Cong Tru was a great man of the country, with many contributions in many fields. In particular, for the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam in the 60s of the 17th century, he was assigned to look after and later had the Thai Hoc house renovated, making this place more spacious, from which "the atmosphere of Confucian scholars was somewhat excited".

According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Mui (Deputy Director of the Thang Long Cultural Research Institute), Tham Tung Pham Cong Tru was not only a famous scholar, a successful official, holding many different positions, but also an excellent politician, military, cultural and educational figure. His illustrious career was highly appreciated by historian Phan Huy Chu, who ranked him as one of the 72 "people with meritorious talent and virtue" in our country in the past.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nhue (Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of History, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), the career of the famous Pham Cong Tru is closely linked to the reign of the monarchs. His career reached its peak when he assisted Trinh Tac, when Trinh Tac had not yet succeeded to the throne. Over the course of more than 40 years, Pham Cong Tru's activities were very diverse in almost all fields: politics, economics, and culture.
Researcher Duong Van Hoan (Institute of Han Nom Studies) also provided a lot of research information about the life and career of the famous Pham Cong Tru. Accordingly, Pham Cong Tru was soon famous for being a loyal and studious son. At the age of 22, he passed the Huong exam; at the age of 26, he passed the Si Vong exam, taking the position of Coach of Thuong Tin prefecture; at the age of 29, he passed the Third Class of Dong Tien Si, then continuously advanced in his career. He held many important positions from low to high in the royal court such as: Phu Doan Phu Phung Thien prefecture, Tham Chinh Su of Thanh Hoa, Le Bo Thuong Thu, Tham Tung, Quoc Lao Tham Dich Tri, Thai Bao... He made many contributions in many fields, especially in the field of culture - society, Pham Cong Tru played an important role in strengthening rituals, education and beliefs.
The scientific conference “Tham Tung Pham Cong Tru (1600 - 1675) - The man and his career” received 21 presentations from scientists and delegates from the Institute of History, the Institute of Han Nom Studies, the Institute of Literature, the Institute of Thang Long Cultural Studies, the Tran Nhan Tong Institute, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University), the University of the Orient, the Hung Yen Provincial Museum, the Vietnam Education Publishing House, the Vietnam Association of Ethnology and Anthropology and the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam. The presentations focused on confirming information about the homeland and family of Pham Cong Tru, along with the person and career of Tham Tung Pham Cong Tru.
