When love spreads

Việt NamViệt Nam01/03/2025

(QBĐT) - "Compassionate Tet" - a movement launched by the Provincial Red Cross Society - has become a "bridge" of love, bringing a warm and complete Tet holiday to thousands of families in special circumstances, helping them to feel more deeply the atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday of the nation.

Community working together

From the very beginning, the Provincial Red Cross Society proactively developed detailed plans, calling for the support of all levels of the society, local authorities, and social organizations. The joint efforts of organizations, individuals, and units have created meaningful activities such as: "Charitable Tet Market," free medical examinations, tặng bus tickets for poor students to return home for Tet, and awarding scholarships to students who overcome difficulties…

All these activities bring profound spiritual values, helping to warm the hearts of those in need during the Lunar New Year. Each gift, each scholarship, each free ride has helped alleviate some of the difficulties and conveyed a message of sharing, of the spirit of "mutual support and compassion," values that have shaped the identity and strength of the nation.

The Red Cross Societies in districts, towns, and cities have responded to the movement in many diverse ways. Units organized exchanges, visits, and gift-giving to encourage officers and soldiers of the Border Guard and other forces on duty protecting the Tet holiday. Activities such as free medical check-ups, gift-giving to poor households and families of policy beneficiaries, or practical gifts like new clothes and shoes for those in difficult circumstances all brought joy and warmth to the recipients.

The Red Cross branches in affiliated units have also effectively mobilized resources to provide many gifts to encourage poor families and students from disadvantaged backgrounds to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies. Le Anh Vu, Chairman of the Red Cross at Vo Nguyen Giap Specialized High School, shared: “We have called for contributions from the school's staff, teachers, and students to build a fund, from which we organize many charitable Tet activities in various localities. Our wish is to help people in difficult circumstances have a warm Tet holiday, while also educating students about compassion and awareness of social and community activities.” Many units also organized cultural spaces to prepare for a joyful and warm Tet, aiming to spread the beautiful cultural traditions of the local people.

Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, Phan Van Cau, stated: “We cannot fail to mention the support of organizations, businesses, and philanthropists in the success of the 'Compassionate Tet' event. The Provincial Red Cross Society directly mobilized 3,410 gift packages, worth 2.68 billion VND. The various levels of the society and affiliated clubs mobilized nearly 21,200 gift packages, worth 11.35 billion VND.” The contributions of large organizations and businesses, such as the Hanoi City Red Cross Society, Dong Hoi Airport, the Quang Binh Business Club in Da Nang City, Prudential Life Insurance Company… along with the silent contributions from individuals, have helped make Tet a more fulfilling season for the less fortunate.

Tet, a time filled with human warmth.

This year, the "Compassionate Tet" program has been widely implemented in many of the most disadvantaged areas of the province. In the mountainous commune of Thuong Trach (Bo Trach district), the "Border Guard Spring - Warming the Hearts of the People" program delivered hundreds of gifts directly to the people. In Trong Hoa commune (Minh Hoa district), the program helped many poor families have a more decent and warm Tet holiday. At the "Compassionate Tet Markets," many poor people received meaningful Tet gifts and had the opportunity to choose necessary items, from food to clothing and household goods. The joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere at the markets is proof of the humane and creative approach to organizing this year's program.

Among the tens of thousands of gifts distributed, there were stories that deeply moved us. The family of Mr. Le Van Dung in Lien Thuy commune (Le Thuy district) is considered one of the most disadvantaged families in the area. He and his eldest daughter are blind, and his wife is also disabled. Upon receiving the Tet gift from the Red Cross Society, he emotionally said: “For my family, this gift is not only material support, but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, giving us more faith in the future.”

With the joint efforts of many charitable organizations and individuals, the "Tet of Compassion" 2025 campaign has mobilized nearly 24,600 gift packages, with a total value of up to 14.03 billion VND, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and sharing that is spreading strongly in the community.

Many other unfortunate circumstances have also received attention and support from the community. These gifts, though small, contain warm human kindness and timely sharing, helping them overcome difficult times. It could be a new set of clothes for a poor child, a box of instant noodles for a lonely elderly person, or a few kilograms of rice for a family without a complete Lunar New Year celebration. These practical actions have brought joy and ignited hope for a better life.

According to Mr. Phan Van Cau, the success of this year's campaign has exceeded all expectations. Compared to the target set by the Central Government, the results exceeded it by nearly 16,200 gifts, equivalent to 10.03 billion VND. Compared to the provincial plan, it exceeded it by nearly 15,600 gifts, equivalent to 9.52 billion VND. This figure is proof of the strong connection between charitable organizations and individuals and those in need, and also serves as motivation for the Red Cross Society to continue implementing more sustainable humanitarian programs in the future.

Heartfelt gifts continue to be given, and each person feels that spring is not only a time for family reunions, but also an opportunity to share love and build a close-knit and warm community.
