From abandoned gardens, people in Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac) have renovated, grown fruit trees and raised livestock, bringing high economic efficiency.
Together with the Provincial New Rural Development Program Coordination Office, socio -political organizations and unions have also implemented many programs and movements associated with the construction, planning and development of household gardens, such as the movements: "Clean house, beautiful garden", "Renovating mixed gardens"... Based on the actual conditions of the locality and the consensus and support of the people, the movement of "awakening household gardens" in the province has achieved positive results, becoming one of the conditions to help localities complete the National Target Program on New Rural Development. The awakening of the potential of garden land funds has been implemented synchronously by localities and people in most districts, towns and cities. Since then, thousands of households have converted and renovated their mixed gardens to grow high-value crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, medicinal plants, etc. At the same time, they have planned and applied science and technology to production to form spacious, modern gardens with high economic efficiency.
In Ngoc Lac district, from the effectiveness of the first model gardens, up to now, the District Gardening and Farm Association has contributed with households to build many model gardens in the communes of Cao Thinh, Minh Tien, Lam Son, Nguyet An... in which fruit trees such as oranges, grapefruit, cassava, pineapple, guava... are grown in combination with livestock; many households have also boldly invested in building greenhouses and net houses to grow safe vegetables... Thereby, contributing to creating a bright, green, clean and beautiful rural appearance; increasing people's income and the quality of new rural construction in the locality.
Sharing his experience in renovating mixed gardens and building model gardens in the locality, Mr. Truong The Thanh, Minh Tien commune, said: “In the beginning, my family encountered many difficulties due to lack of capital and experience, but through visiting and learning from some models, based on the actual conditions of area and soil, I invested in land renovation, divided areas for growing fruit trees and combined with raising chickens and pigs. In addition, I invested in building biogas tanks, planting many trees, with solid concrete roads between the areas and installing automatic irrigation systems to each tree, making it convenient to take care of the plants and saving production costs. Currently, my family's garden is working effectively, with a profit of more than 500 million VND each year after deducting expenses."
In Thieu Hoa district, implementing the program of building new rural areas and advanced new rural areas, the district has launched a movement to renovate mixed gardens to grow fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, dig ponds for fish farming... Each household garden is designed on the basis of available area and implemented in accordance with the planning drawings, investing, installing dynamic irrigation systems, applying scientific advances in production; building fences around the garden, renovating roads to facilitate care and harvesting. On that basis, the district directs the Department of Agriculture and Environment, People's Committees of communes, towns, and associations to encourage people to plant trees suitable to the characteristics of soil, climate, and intensive farming level of the people... to orient garden renovation. At the same time, strengthen the launching of emulation movements, assign cadres to each commune and village to directly participate, guide and help people build model gardens according to the correct standards. Regularly promote pilot models so that people can visit, learn and share experiences. In addition, to motivate people, the district has supported each household to participate and achieve the criteria of "Clean house - model garden" according to regulations.
In reality, the widespread gardening movement has contributed to changing the thinking of gardening households towards commodity production; at the same time, well implementing the renovation of housing areas, creating a green - clean - beautiful landscape; which is also an important condition to improve the quality of life of rural people. However, in order for this movement to be widely spread, all levels, sectors and localities need to strengthen propaganda on the effectiveness of garden construction; at the same time, commend model gardens for people to learn from. In addition, it is necessary to increase support for household owners in choosing key plants and breeds suitable for the locality; establish cooperatives and cooperatives to help each other develop production; promote the application of science and technology; produce organic fertilizers from agricultural waste, organic household waste; environmental sanitation...
