Reviving the gardening movement among rural people.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - To stimulate the gardening movement in rural areas, many localities in the province have implemented policies to encourage and support people in renovating neglected gardens, thereby awakening the potential of garden land, applying science and technology, and gradually developing it into a highly effective economic model.

From abandoned gardens, people in Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac district) have renovated them, planting fruit trees and combining it with livestock farming, bringing high economic efficiency.

Along with the Provincial Rural Development Program Coordination Office, political and social organizations and associations have also implemented many programs and movements related to the construction, planning, and development of household gardens, such as the movements: "Clean House, Beautiful Garden," "Renovating Dirty Gardens," etc. Based on the actual conditions of the localities and the support of the people, the "awakening household gardens" movement in the province has yielded positive results, becoming one of the conditions to help localities complete the National Target Program for Rural Development. The potential of garden land has been synchronously implemented by localities and people in most districts, towns, and cities. As a result, thousands of households have converted and renovated their dilapidated gardens to cultivate high-economic-value crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, and medicinal plants. At the same time, planning and applying science and technology to production have created spacious, modern, and economically efficient gardens.

In Ngoc Lac district, building on the success of the first model gardens, the District Gardening and Farming Association has contributed to the construction of many model gardens in communes such as Cao Thinh, Minh Tien, Lam Son, Nguyet An, etc., in collaboration with local households. These gardens cultivate fruit trees such as oranges, pomelos, cassava, pineapples, and guavas, combined with livestock farming. Many households have also boldly invested in building greenhouses and net houses for growing safe vegetables. This has contributed to creating a bright, green, clean, and beautiful rural landscape; increasing people's income and improving the quality of rural development in the locality.

Sharing his experience in renovating his neglected garden and establishing a model garden in his locality, Mr. Truong The Thanh from Minh Tien commune said: “Initially, my family faced many difficulties due to a lack of capital and experience. However, after visiting and learning from several model projects, and based on the actual conditions of the area and soil, I invested in improving the land, dividing it into areas for planting fruit trees and combining it with raising chickens and pigs. In addition, I invested in building a biogas digester, planting many trees, creating solid concrete paths between the areas, and installing an automatic irrigation system to each tree. This made caring for the plants convenient and saved on production costs. Currently, my family's garden is proving effective, yielding a profit of over 500 million VND per year after deducting expenses.”

In Thieu Hoa district, implementing the New Rural Development and Advanced New Rural Development programs, the district has launched a movement to renovate neglected gardens to plant fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, and dig ponds for fish farming. Each household garden is designed based on the available area and implemented according to the planning drawings, with investment in and installation of a dynamic irrigation system, application of scientific advancements in production; building fences around the garden, and improving pathways to facilitate care and harvesting. Based on this, the district directs the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committees of communes and towns, and associations to encourage people to plant types of trees suitable to the soil characteristics, climate, and level of intensive farming of the people... to guide garden renovation. At the same time, it strengthens the emulation movement, assigns officials to each commune and village to directly participate in and guide people in building model gardens according to standards. Regularly publicizing model gardens so that people can visit, learn, and share experiences. In addition, to motivate the people, the district has provided support to each household that participates and meets the criteria of "Clean House - Model Garden" as stipulated.

The reality shows that the widespread gardening movement has contributed to changing the mindset of farmers towards commercial production in their gardening activities; at the same time, it has helped to improve the appearance of residential areas, creating a green, clean, and beautiful environment; which is also an important condition for improving the quality of life for rural people. However, to expand this movement, all levels, sectors, and localities need to strengthen propaganda about the effectiveness of garden development; and at the same time, commend model gardens for people to learn from. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen support for households in choosing key plant and animal breeds suitable for the locality; establish cooperatives and associations to help each other develop production; promote the application of science and technology; produce organic fertilizer from agricultural waste and organic household waste; and improve environmental sanitation...
