The project aims to create sustainable green spaces from bamboo, a plant that has long been associated with the Vietnamese people. Bamboo gardens not only contribute to the landscape, providing shade and fresh oxygen, but also provide a source of nutritious bamboo shoots, improving nutrition for children, the elderly and vulnerable groups.
In particular, the project also incorporates the Green Hero initiative in treating organic waste from the kitchen, turning composted waste into organic fertilizer to nourish green bamboo groves, closing the ecological cycle.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of Vietnam Bamboo Foundation, emphasized that bamboo is a symbol of resilience, solidarity and also a valuable resource for sustainable development. The project "Community Bamboo Garden" with the desire to spread the spirit of green living, turning each bamboo bush into an environmental education space, where children can learn, experience, connect with nature, and join hands to protect the earth.
In the first phase, the project will be piloted in a number of localities, protection centers and shelters, associated with bamboo planting activities combined with agriculture , livestock, bamboo product production and community tourism; at the same time, the "Community Bamboo Garden" is also oriented to become a green education model, spreading the message of environmental protection and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Hoang Long, Director of SOS Village Go Vap - the first unit to implement the project, said that the bamboo trees planted today not only create green space for children, but also bring practical value in daily life and meals, contributing to the physical and mental nourishment of the children.
Within the framework of the event, the organizers also presented 150 gifts and nutritious meals to children at SOS Village Go Vap, with a menu made from bamboo shoots combined with many other nutritious foods. This activity not only takes care of the children's daily meals, but also demonstrates the diverse and close application value of bamboo in life.
World Bamboo Day is held annually on September 18 to honor the tree species with more than 1,500 applications and is considered an important material of the green economy . In 2025, for the first time in Vietnam, many activities will take place in response, affirming the increasingly important role of bamboo in preserving cultural identity, developing communities and protecting the environment.
