Successful start-up with cordyceps products

Việt NamViệt Nam28/02/2024

In just 1 year , Mr. Le Quoc Huy , owner of a business household in My Binh village ( Son Thanh Dong commune , Tay Hoa district ) has successfully produced cordyceps sinensis products , becoming a 3 - star OCOP product , a typical rural industrial product at the provincial level . This is considered the beginning of the success of this young man born in 1998 .

Building from organic mushroom farming model

After graduating from the Biotechnology major at Da Nang University of Technology, Le Quoc Huy went to Ho Chi Minh City to work for a cosmetics company, then worked as a market employee in Binh Phuoc province... In early 2023, Huy returned to his hometown to start producing cordyceps products.

Sharing about the reason for producing this product, Le Quoc Huy said: I had knowledge about fungi when I was in college. At the beginning of my work, I learned more about fungi, cordyceps, and cordyceps products in the provinces. The fate was that when I came to Da Nang City, I saw that there was a very safe organic cordyceps mushroom farming model (using pure plants cultured on fungi). In addition, I was also guided through the steps by the school's lecturers, so I was determined to start a business from the organic cordyceps mushroom production model.

For a young man who has just graduated and has little experience, producing products is not easy. “I borrowed money from the bank and received additional support from my family, so I was able to start production with nearly 900 million VND. From this money, I built a factory on my family's land, invested in equipment, raw materials and covered operating costs... After nearly 1 year of production, the operation of the facility and my income have gradually stabilized,” Huy shared.

Currently, the production facility of Le Quoc Huy business household has both a product display area and breeding and inoculation rooms... The special thing is that the facility has created its own embryos and inoculated its own seeds... so it can control all stages from input materials as well as the process and quality of finished products.

Mr. Le Quoc Huy shared more: I created the embryo by taking advantage of local rice, then imported Spirulina algae from Japan, combined with natural irrigation water and did not use any chemicals in the embryo creation process. Once the embryo was available, I put the embryo in the incubation room to incubate in the dark, then went through steps such as activating light, adjusting temperature, humidity appropriately...

After 3 months, the finished product is ready. Currently, the facility has also performed the freeze-drying process so that the product retains more than 90% of the medicinal properties, the product is not deformed and can be preserved for about 1 year.

Keep learning to grow

After 3 months from the time of implementing the Cordyceps farming model, the young man born in 1998 had a complete product to bring to the market, built a distribution system in the province and other provinces such as Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc , Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City...

“The facility has automated the stages in the breeding, planting, and drying rooms for finished products. Although there are many cordyceps products on the market, in order for my products to be competitive, I have gradually improved the production processes and closely supervised the techniques to ensure the products achieve optimal quality. In addition, I also have to find a market for my products myself,” Huy confided.

The cordyceps products of Le Quoc Huy business are made according to completely organic, vegan criteria and ensure food safety criteria. From the current farming and production model, in about 3 months, the facility can produce about 10kg of dried mushrooms. And the 3 main types of products that have been brought to the market by the facility are dried cordyceps, cordyceps soaked in honey and cordyceps wine.

More specifically, the set of 3 products of special freeze-dried cordyceps, standard freeze-dried cordyceps and cordyceps soaked in honey of this business household participated and was voted as a typical rural industrial product at the provincial level in 2023. The products were also recognized by the locality as 3-star OCOP products.

Not stopping at the current production model, Le Quoc Huy also has new plans in the near future.

“In 2024, I plan to expand the facility, mushroom growing room, and complete the automation system… to increase product productivity. I will continue to invest in a drying system and establish a company to facilitate the business process. However, I still have to learn more experience, expertise, management methods, financial autonomy… from previous facilities and successful people to operate the business better,” Huy shared.

Among the products recognized as typical rural industrial products at the provincial level in 2023, the cordyceps product of Le Quoc Huy business household was highly appreciated by the voting council based on the criteria of meeting the market, production development capacity; economic - technical - social and environmental criteria; cultural and aesthetic criteria; other criteria on quality, awards, etc.
