In the past, people who owned houses on the street believed that they could still spend money by renting out their houses without having to work. Now, the situation has reversed due to the development of online business. It is not difficult to see that the number of houses on the street being closed and hanging signs for rent is increasing as small businesses decide to retreat into the alley of online business.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh, Tich Son ward (Vinh Yen city) said: "Before Tet 2025, I rented a store on Ngo Quyen street to sell cosmetics, Tet decoration accessories, children's toys... but recently had to return the premises because of poor business. Every month, the cost of renting the store is up to 13 million VND, which means that every day I lose more than 400,000 VND, making the income not enough to cover expenses and having to close the store."
Before renting a street-front house to do business, Ms. Linh used to sell products online at home. Currently, Ms. Linh has returned home to continue maintaining her old job to create a source of income and minimize investment costs.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh added: “Traditional business is increasingly difficult, so even if you rent a nice location, selling products is not very effective. Meanwhile, selling online at home has a stable revenue, I do not have to bear the financial pressure of rent, and have the opportunity to reach new customers.”
It can be seen that online business is becoming an inevitable trend in the digital age. With the strong development of the internet and digital platforms, online business has become an extremely effective sales channel and customer approach.
The location of the store does not matter because in alleys or apartment buildings, online traders can still reach customers, thereby expanding the market without having to spend large costs on renting a house/store. This is what has caused the market for renting street-front houses to be quiet recently and the number of "house for rent" signs on the streets is increasing.
Located deep in a small alley, Ms. Le Thuy's online business in Lien Bao Ward (Vinh Yen) is very successful with hundreds of orders per day. Specializing in selling take-away food/drinks such as coconut ice cream, grapefruit tea, salted chicken... Ms. Thuy's food processing and trading facility always has 3-5 workers to support the work due to the large number of customers.
One of the secrets that makes Ms. Thuy's online business attract customers is the rich menu with dozens of types of sweet soup, fresh fruit salad, product prices are always cheaper than the market and the food processing is clean, trusted and highly appreciated by customers. Therefore, although selling online at home, Ms. Thuy always has a lot of work to do, the revenue is higher year after year.
With the advantage of online business, more and more people are participating in selling products via social networks. Not only small traders and businesses, but also office workers, housewives, and students with a passion for business can hardly ignore this job to increase their income. They take advantage of their home business location, not afraid to rent a store in a small alley to optimize their finances for online sales.
Online business goods are very diverse and rich, from food, food to cosmetics, household appliances, fashion ... small traders exploit distribution sources to put into business effectively.
According to the feedback of small traders, with the trend of online business, renting a storefront is not a necessary and sufficient condition for success. Even the cost of renting a store is too expensive and unnecessary.
However, to do business at home, in an alley to attract a large number of customers, the product quality must be good along with reasonable prices. When all of the above factors are met, the business will be effective because the seller knows how to take advantage of opportunities and orient development appropriately.
