Part 1: Young Leaders

Việt NamViệt Nam15/08/2023

In recent years, the work of developing Party membership among students has been given attention and effectively implemented by Party committees, mass organizations, and schools in the province. Under the roofs of these schools, many "red seeds" have sprouted and developed, contributing to supplementing the resources and strength of the Party.

Part 1 : Young Leaders

Joining the Party while still in school is a great honor and source of pride for any student. It is also a milestone and a motivation for them to continue training, striving, and becoming "red seeds" of the Party.

Joining the Party at age 18

Recently, at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area (Phuoc Tan village, Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city), Nguyen Dinh Phong (a student at Le Quy Don Specialized High School) nervously recited his oath during the party membership ceremony. He emotionally expressed his gratitude to the party members in the branch for their care and guidance. Phong was even more moved when his mother – a party member and military officer – also attended the ceremony. “Being admitted to the Party at this historical site is a source of pride for me and my family. I will strive to study hard and follow the example of our beloved Uncle Ho,” the young 18-year-old party member said with emotion.

Ms. Pham Thi Khanh Huong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Agencies Bloc, presented flowers to congratulate young Party member Nguyen Dinh Phong.

During his school years, Phong not only excelled academically but was also very active in extracurricular activities. In 5th grade, he won first prize in the National Outstanding Youth Leader Competition; in 6th grade, he represented the province at the national children's forum and was the youngest speaker at the forum. In 12th grade, Phong won second prize in Physics in the provincial selection exam for the national excellent student competition, along with numerous awards, certificates, and commendations at various levels. Phong was also a familiar face in several large and small debate programs for high school and university students. In 2022, this bright-eyed young man was the founder and head of the YOLO Debate Club and the Social Work Team of Le Quy Don Specialized High School, with over 60 members from three high schools. Using funds raised by the team members themselves from selling lime tea, crispy rice, etc., Phong and the Social Work Team have regularly maintained monthly activities such as: teaching at the Phật Bửu Pagoda shelter (Ninh Hòa town); donating gifts at Thanh Sơn Pagoda (Cam Lâm district); providing free meals to poor patients in Nha Trang city; picking up trash on the beach; promoting environmental protection; training and developing skills for young people… Currently, the Social Work Team has two outstanding members who are being considered for Party membership.

The vibrant student life

At the end of 2022, Bo Bo Thi Minh Thu became the first female ethnic minority student at Khanh Hoa University to be admitted to the Party. The Secretary of the Youth Union of the Literature Class K4 (majoring in literature, journalism, and communication) had experienced difficult times when her father fell ill and was bedridden, and her mother was frequently ill and unable to work. After her father's death, Thu's family became impoverished. The already arduous journey of this student from the mountainous district of Khanh Son to study far from home became even more challenging. However, the spirit of a young Party member helped Thu overcome these difficulties, continue to strive in her studies, and wholeheartedly participate in extracurricular activities.

Bo Bo Thi Minh Thu guides the children of Ta Nia village in playing games.

When talking about her volunteer experiences, the girl with the bright smile became visibly excited. She recalled the stressful days during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2021, when Thu and others manned checkpoints at the Khanh Son pass, collecting samples for testing and collecting food and supplies for Nha Trang City; or the time she joined the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities' Youth Union in organizing a candlelight vigil to honor fallen soldiers; and the Khanh Son District Youth Union's "keeping the flame of tradition alive" to commemorate War Invalids and Martyrs Day; and the bustling days of volunteer campaigns like the "Pink Holiday" volunteer program, supporting students during exam season, cleaning up beaches, and collecting books, notebooks, and used clothes for flood victims in Central Vietnam… The conversation was lively when Thu gently said goodbye, explaining it was time to go to her Khanh Son stone xylophone playing class. “After finishing this class, I will continue learning to play the ma la drum. I want to maintain and spread the traditional culture of my locality to everyone. Later, even after I'm past the age for the Youth Union, I will still participate in movements to contribute to my homeland…,” Thu said amidst the cheerful laughter of the children surrounding her in Ta Nia village, Son Trung commune (Khanh Son district)…

Growing up with the movement

On December 22, 2022, the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, at the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial (Cam Lam district), Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, a final-year student of the Tourism Management and Guiding Faculty (Nha Trang Tourism College), had the honor of taking the oath and receiving her Party membership decision. This dynamic and talented member of the College's Youth Union Executive Committee has actively contributed to many activities, such as: the Green Summer program in Khanh Vinh district; the 6th Provincial Self-Made Training Equipment Competition in 2022; and the mass arts festival... Tu was awarded the title of Outstanding and Exemplary Student of Vocational Education Institutions in 2022 by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh (front row, second from the left) receives second prize in the Khanh Hoa Youth Competition to learn about Resolution No. 09 and Resolution No. 55.

By her third year of study, Nguyen Thi Van Anh, a student in the K62 Law class at Nha Trang University, had already accumulated a considerable record of achievements. Van Anh, along with other members of the provincial team, won second prize in the Central Vietnam regional finals of the 4th National Olympic Competition in Marxist-Leninist Sciences and Ho Chi Minh Thought, "The Guiding Light," in 2021; second prize in the Khanh Hoa Youth Competition on Understanding Resolutions No. 09 and No. 55; and first prize in the online competition on learning about Khanh Hoa's 370 years of construction and development. Van Anh is the Head of the Khanh Hoa Green Community Volunteer Team (part of the Vietnam Green Community), striving to spread her love for the environment and her philanthropic spirit to many young people. Through these activities, she had the opportunity to contribute, grow, and was honored to be admitted to the Party while still in her third year of study. This is a significant milestone that helps Van Anh gain more confidence in developing her abilities. In her final year, Van Anh was among the top 10 outstanding students of the school in 2022; and was recognized as an outstanding "5 Good" student at the provincial level in the 2021-2022 academic year. Van Anh's enthusiastic and vibrant spirit has inspired her classmates, helping many to become more lively, confident, and dynamic…

In reality, wherever Party committees pay attention to and prioritize the training and development of potential Party members, the work of developing Party members achieves good results. Promoting the development of Party members among students not only helps Party branches and committees meet their targets, but also contributes to rejuvenating and improving the quality of Party members, supplementing resources and strengthening the Party.

“Being admitted to the Party at the age of 18 is a significant milestone that helps me find the right direction for myself, and it is also a great encouragement for me to continue pursuing my youthful ambitions. I will strive even harder, be a role model, and dedicate myself wholeheartedly to the community,” shared young Party member Nguyen Dinh Phong.
