Celebrating the 100th anniversary of musician Van Cao's birth

The conference on Van Cao's life and career and the 100th anniversary of Van Cao's birth are dual conferences, proposed and jointly organized by the wishes of Vietnam UNESCO members, Van Cao's family (proposed by painter and poet Van Thao - Vietnam UNESCO member on behalf of the family) and a number of organizations inside and outside the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations.

Seminar on Van Cao's life and career took place on November 15.

Opening the ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of musician, painter, poet Van Cao, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, Mr. Tran Van Manh said that the ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Van Cao's birth, together with the music festival called Dan Chim Viet hosted by the Vietnam Musicians Association in August this year on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution, along with the Ben Xuan music program organized by the Vietnam Contemporary Arts Theater and similar music nights and seminars, are incense sticks offered in memory of Van Cao.

The conference devoted much time to in-depth, multi-dimensional discussions about Van Cao. The discussions not only focused on Van Cao's life and career, such as his biography, author, works, talent structure, and genius thoughts, but also provided an opportunity for writers, poets, and experts in all fields to evaluate the timeliness and sustainability of Van Cao's works, and to discuss predictions about Van Cao's ability to be prophetic in music.

Painter and poet Van Thao, son of the late musician Van Cao, expressed his emotion and gratitude to the Party, National Assembly , State and Government, as well as specialized cultural and artistic associations and all those who have special affection for Van Cao who attended the ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth.

"We see our father as a tall tree with great shade, and our mother as a source of love. We always keep our parents' good example and tell each other to try to follow our father's example in working, to contribute small parts of art to please our father and reassure our mother, but it is indeed not easy when we have tried our best to "follow our father" but have never surpassed his shadow," painter Van Thao said emotionally.

Multi-talented artist of poetry, music, painting

At the conference, guests listened to many presentations praising, telling stories and expressing gratitude to musician Van Cao.

In the presentation "Van Cao - King of Music" , musician and poet Nguyen Thuy Kha emphasized that Van Cao's most special natural talent was that he poured himself into three art forms: music, poetry and painting. What's more special is that in all three of those art forms, in each one, one can see the shadow of the other two. In poetry, one can see the impression of music and painting. In painting, one can see the abundant musicality and poeticity, clearly unique in the cubist paintings. And in music, one can also see the overflowing poeticity in the lyrics, the painterly quality in the melodic lines.

Presenting the paper "Van Cao with revolution and art", painter and journalist Trinh Yen affirmed that Van Cao's whole life was a series of talents due to training and natural factors (innate), so he became a musician, painter, and poet who had great influence in the revolutionary movement along with new music, new literature, and new fine arts, creating a new art, contributing to defining and clarifying revolutionary ideology, national progress, and the spirit of national solidarity.

Commenting on the number of works of Van Cao, many people often mention him as a multi-talented artist, who likes to "wander" through new "territories" of new and different types of creative art. Although he did not stick with a certain field for too long, in the "territories" he passed through, Van Cao left a creative mark of pioneering nature - opening the way for those who came after him to develop.

Also at the conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association Duc Trinh expressed his pride that Vietnam has a Van Cao who is not only famous in all three fields of music composition, poetry and painting, but also sees in him a friendliness, simplicity but inside full of heroic spirit and romance.

With pre-revolutionary music called romantic, lyrical and post-revolutionary music called heroic pre-war, Van Cao is still like a pioneer flag in artistic creation... Until now, every time Van Cao's musical melodies are played, people's hearts are still stirred with the fighting spirit, heroism, love for the homeland and country that has been transmitting the melody's residual power in the hearts of young generations from the past to the present.
