The handwritten notes were carefully sent by Archibald Gracie - a first-class passenger - to a relative (the uncle of the seller of this letter) on April 10, 1912 - just a few days before the legendary ship sank to the bottom of the ocean.

In the letter, he wrote about Titanic with a sentence that was both admiring and contained an indescribable premonition: "This is a wonderful ship, but I will wait until the end of the journey before evaluating it."

According to the prestigious auction house Henry Aldridge & Son in Wiltshire (UK), this historic letter was sold to a private collector in the US at the auction this weekend. The final price far exceeded all predictions, five times the initial estimate of 60,000 pounds, proving its priceless spiritual and historical value.

Considered to be the only surviving letter written directly from the Titanic by Archibald Gracie himself, this priceless artifact is a touching piece in the tragic story of the fateful voyage.

The Titanic struck an icy iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland, killing some 1,500 people on its maiden and final voyage.

Archibald Gracie was not only a passenger, he was also a miraculous survivor. During that terrifying night, as the ship was sinking into darkness, he risked his life to jump from the deck and with all his remaining strength, struggled onto a capsized lifeboat. Fortunately, he was discovered by other survivors on another lifeboat and pulled onto the RMS Carpathia.

Returning to New York, Gracie spent her remaining days writing the famous book "The Truth about the Titanic", a breathtakingly detailed and truthful account of the legendary ship's final hours.

Gracie boarded the Titanic at Southampton on April 10, 1912, and was assigned to first class cabin C51. Tragically, despite surviving the ordeal at sea, he never fully recovered from the severe hypothermia he suffered. Archibald Gracie died in late 1912 from complications from diabetes, taking with him the memories of the ill-fated ship.

This historic letter also bears a postmark from Queenstown, Ireland – one of the Titanic's two final stops before the ship set sail, heading towards an uncertain future and becoming one of the most tearful maritime tragedies in human history.
