Lai Chau: Heavy rain causes landslides, leaving many people injured and missing

This morning, while clearing the foundation pit under the hydroelectric dam, the negative slope of the road through Mo Si San commune collapsed, causing rocks and soil to flow down and bury many people. Currently, 4 injured people have been taken to the emergency room and 5 people are missing.

It is known that the Ta Pao Ho 1A & 1B hydropower project cluster is a series of adjacent steps, in which the Ta Pao Ho 1A hydropower plant is upstream and the Ta Pao Ho 1B hydropower plant is downstream. The project cluster is about 90km from Lai Chau city center, exploiting hydropower resources on the Ta Pao Ho stream basin in the communes of Si Lo Lau and Mo Si San, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province.

The Ta Pao Ho 1A and Ta Pao Ho 1B hydropower project clusters are 2 of 8 hydropower projects being invested by Kosy Group in Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces.

Mr. Vuong The Man, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province, said that the initial cause was determined to be due to prolonged heavy rain in the area in recent days, causing the soil on the slope to absorb enough water, leading to landslides.

Immediately after the incident, the construction unit reported to the authorities to organize rescue. Currently, Lai Chau provincial leaders and rescue forces are present at the scene to provide rescue.
