Ms. Ha (far right) introduces her Bo Chinh ginseng growing model. |
Born into a farming family, Ms. Ha understands better than anyone the hardships and difficulties of farmers. But she thinks that if everyone leaves the fields, who will grow crops and raise livestock? To become rich in her homeland, Ms. Ha has found a way that suits local conditions and her own abilities.
After graduating from the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, and traveling here and there, Ms. Ha realized that Bo Chinh ginseng is very easy to grow, gives good profits and stable output. From the initial experimental ginseng beds, in the past 2 years, she has grown more than 4 sao on her family's agricultural land. Planting with the right techniques and taking care of the right process, her ginseng growing area always gives a stable income.
“Quang Phu area is flooded every year. Here, if people want to grow ginseng, they have to sow the seeds early, around November, and harvest around September of the following year. Taking care of Bo Chinh ginseng is not difficult, just keep the soil dry and not flooded. When harvesting, ginseng can be sold not only for its roots but also for its flowers, so the economic efficiency is quite high,” said Ms. Ha.
Previously, the local crop land was mainly planted with beans, potatoes, cassava, etc. Ms. Ha then experimented with other short-term, high-yield fruit trees such as melons and pumpkins. “Compared to rice and traditional crops, melons, pumpkins, etc. give many times higher productivity and income,” Ms. Ha shared.
Currently, Ms. Ha's integrated economic model of raising cows combined with growing Bo Chinh ginseng, short-term crops and trading agricultural materials is providing a stable income. Her family is raising more than 20 breeding cows. Every year, after deducting expenses, Ms. Ha's family earns over 200 million VND.
According to Ms. Ha, the most important thing in animal husbandry is to choose good breeds, ensuring that the livestock always have high resistance. Whatever animals are raised or plants are grown, they must be suitable for local climate and soil conditions. Barns need to be built high, airy, and clean to avoid diseases. For crops, Ms. Ha focuses on taking care of crops properly right from the seed selection stage. She often chooses seeds from reputable brands to ensure that the plants can grow well. During the growing process, she only uses organic fertilizers combined with microbial products to improve the soil and limit pests and diseases.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, President of the Women's Union of Quang Phu commune, said: The movement "Women actively study, work creatively, build happy families" has spread widely among female cadres and members throughout the ward. Through the movement, many typical female members have emerged who are good at doing business and building a prosperous and happy family. Ms. Hoang Thi Ha has become a shining example in creative work, rising up to escape poverty sustainably from raising livestock and growing crops. Not only good at doing business, Ms. Ha is also an active member in local women's movements.
