Inflation remains under control, price levels remain stable

On average, in the first 10 months of 2025, core inflation increased by 3.20% over the same period last year, lower than the 3.27% increase in the average CPI, showing that the price and monetary control policies are operating in the right direction, helping to curb inflation without slowing economic growth.

According to the report of the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ), the consumer price index (CPI) in October 2025 increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month, increased by 2.82% compared to December 2024 and increased by 3.25% compared to the same period in 2024. On average, the CPI increased by 3.27% over the same period last year, an increase that is considered consistent with market developments and within the Government's target of controlling inflation below 4%.

Statistics from the General Statistics Office show that core inflation in October 2025 increased by 0.35% compared to the previous month and by 3.3% compared to the same period; the average increase in the 10 months was 3.2%, lower than the average CPI. This shows that price management measures, money supply control and monetary policy have been effective, helping to stabilize the general price level.

Director of the General Statistics Office, Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, said that the reason for the CPI increase in October was mainly due to the increase in food prices in provinces and cities affected by floods; the price of eating out increased due to the cost of raw materials; and the adjustment of tuition fees for non-public education services for the new school year. The groups of housing, electricity and water, construction materials, clothing, household appliances, etc. increased slightly, reflecting the recovery of consumer demand and the trend of increasing production costs at the end of the year.

Statistics in the first 10 months of 2025 show that the CPI increased in 9 months and decreased in only 1 month compared to the previous month. On average, the CPI increased by 0.28% per month, lower than the same period in 2024. The main factors that increased the CPI include the food and catering services group (up 3.18%), housing and construction materials group (up 6.2%), medicine and medical services group (up 13.39%) and education group (up 1.95%). On the contrary, the transportation group decreased by 2.61% and the post and telecommunications group decreased by 0.48%, contributing to curbing the overall increase of the CPI.

On average, core inflation increased by 3.2% in the first 10 months, lower than the average CPI of 3.27%. The reason is that factors such as food, foodstuffs, electricity, medical services, education (commodities with strong price fluctuations) are excluded from the core inflation basket. This reflects that the basic supply and demand of the economy is still stable, without great pressure from demand-pull or cost-push.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong emphasized that maintaining a slight increase in CPI and core inflation lower than the target level shows the effectiveness of the Government's price management, money supply control, and coordination of fiscal and monetary policies. Despite being affected by extreme weather, world price fluctuations, and increased domestic consumption demand, the price level is still well controlled, creating favorable conditions for growth recovery and stabilizing people's lives.
