Many bright examples of overcoming difficulties

Previously, Nguyen Trong Hong's family (Tan Tu commune, Bach Thong district) only relied on motorbike repair, so life was quite difficult. After researching and seeing the increasing demand for new rural construction, he boldly set up a small construction team. After a few years of accumulating capital, he decided to open a construction company, investing in machinery worth more than two billion VND. While learning techniques and being diligent and hard-working, his company has developed, creating stable jobs for many local farmers. In addition, Hong also actively supports poor households and policy families in the area.

Similarly, Mr. Vu Dinh Khien's family (Nguyen Phuc commune, Bach Thong district) has gone through difficult years. Since 2017, Mr. Khien has changed direction to build a farm of more than 6,000m² to raise super egg ducks. Initially, he encountered many failures, but thanks to the support of the Commune Farmers' Association and his determination to overcome difficulties, he maintains a flock of about 3,000 ducks/year, collecting more than 1,500 eggs per day. After deducting expenses, he earns more than 200 million VND/year from raising ducks and about 100 million VND/year from raising pigs.

In Dong Tam town (Cho Moi district), Ms. Ha Thi Thinh also built a comprehensive economic model with an income of more than 800 million VND/year. In addition to raising 30-40 sows, more than 400 chickens, and planting 1.5 hectares of forest, she also runs a grocery store of more than 300 square meters. Not only enriching her family, Ms. Thinh also supports capital, materials, and technical guidance for many poor households in the district.

The widespread movement of good production and business has created many high-income models, such as: the model of afforestation combined with services in Thanh Mai commune (Cho Moi) earning more than 1.4 billion VND/year; producing dong vermicelli in Con Minh (Na Ri) earning 900 million VND/year; planting forests and seedlings in Binh Trung (Cho Don) earning 930 million VND/year; trading and raising buffaloes and cows in Nghien Loan (Pac Nam) earning more than 1.1 billion VND/year; growing turmeric and processing agricultural products in Nong Thuong ( Bac Kan city) earning more than 1.3 billion VND/year...

With proper guidance and support, Bac Kan farmers have boldly innovated their thinking, promoted their existing potential, and gradually built sustainable economic models linked to the market.

Accompany and support farmers

According to the Farmers' Association of Bac Kan province, the locality has always paid attention to supporting farmers in developing production with many specific mechanisms and policies. In recent times, the provincial Agricultural Extension Center has implemented 34 technology transfer models with 1,157 participating households; organized 10 crop models, seven livestock models, eight aquaculture models, nine forestry models; from which selected plant and animal varieties suitable for the locality. Many projects linking production and consumption of agricultural products have been implemented. The program "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) has also achieved many positive results with 218 products achieving 3 stars or more.

Capital sources to support farmers have been increased with the aim of creating a foundation for farmers to invest in expanding production. The Provincial Farmers' Association alone has lent 703 members more than 33 billion VND from the association fund; entrusted capital from the social policy bank more than 922 billion VND to more than 12,400 households... Along with that, the associations at all levels have also organized more than 2,100 technical training courses, supported the establishment of 78 cooperatives, 744 cooperative groups, and guided the construction of many effective production models such as growing sticky rice, fragrant squash, and velvet under the forest canopy...

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Diep, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Bac Kan province, the movement of farmers competing in production and good business has contributed to changing the face of the countryside. More and more households have incomes from 800 million VND to more than 1 billion VND per year. In particular, good production households also actively support other members. From 2021 to now, more than 11,600 disadvantaged households have been helped with nearly 3 billion VND and more than 28,500 working days.

In the coming time, Bac Kan province strives to have more than 60% of its members achieve the title of excellent production and business households at all levels, of which at least 30% will achieve the provincial level. Associations at all levels will continue to innovate their methods of operation and increase support for members in building production cooperation models associated with sustainable value chains. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Diep said: “To achieve this goal, we are determined to continue focusing on the grassroots. From there, associations at all levels will accompany, guide, and support members in developing and linking production to bring about more sustainable economic efficiency.”

With solid achievements, Bac Kan is gradually forming a new generation of farmers who are good at production, strong in association, and have the desire to get rich from their homeland.
