Starting from the 2024-2025 school year, every first Monday morning of the month, after the solemn flag-raising ceremony, small envelopes will be given, containing the teachers' hearts, to 3 disadvantaged students selected by the school to help. 300,000 VND per month, that number may be too normal for many people, but for the children, it is the steps that are supported, the breakfasts that are full, and the new notebooks that are opened with so much hope.

The idea of this special model started from a very simple but thoughtful question from Mr. Ho Quoc Can, the school's Principal: "Previously, the Youth Union of Dam Doi District Police had adopted a student of the school, so can't we, the teachers who are close to the students every day, adopt someone?"

From these concerns, after a meeting with the teachers, the school decided to set up a fund to support students with especially difficult circumstances. Each teacher voluntarily gave up their breakfast allowance of about 30 thousand VND per month to contribute to the common fund. “We do not mobilize from outside, do not make a big appeal, it is all from the teachers' hearts. The school will support the students for 4 years starting from the time of consideration for support until they finish grade 9. The condition for consideration for support is that the students do not need to have good or excellent academic performance, but only need to have truly difficult circumstances. The school's Board of Directors, along with the homeroom teacher and the Team Leader will visit their homes to find out their circumstances, then hold a council meeting and find a way to support them. In this school year, we selected two students, one in grade 6 and one in grade 7. However, in the second semester, there was a case of an 8th grade student, because his father suddenly passed away, his family situation was too difficult, so the school agreed to support this student as well,” said Mr. Can.

Small in stature, somewhat thinner than her peers, Kim Khanh Vy (6th grade student, Quach Pham Bac Secondary School) has clear eyes, and in those eyes shines a ray of hope when she talks about the silent love that her teachers have given her. Vy's family is in a difficult situation, their livelihood depends on her father's unstable job as a shrimp carrier. Her mother, because she has to take care of two younger siblings, does not have a stable job. However, in the midst of these hardships, Vy still does not give up on her studies, partly because of her desire to go to school, partly because of the support from her teachers and school. "Three hundred thousand dong a month helps me have breakfast and buy notebooks, pens... I am very happy, because I have more motivation to go to school every day," Vy smiled.

Kim Huynh Thu, grade 8, is another case supported by the school. Thu's family has 3 siblings, but she is the only one still studying, her older brother and younger brother both dropped out of school early to stay home and help their parents earn a living. Thu's parents work as hired sawmill workers and charcoal makers at home. On days when she is not in class, Thu often helps her mother light the fire and watch the stove. Her small hands have soon become accustomed to coal ash, the smell of smoke has made her fingertips black. Despite the hardships, she still has a simple but determined dream of continuing to study and becoming a teacher in the future, so that she can teach and share with children in similar circumstances.

Recently, Thu's family was fortunate to receive support from the local government to build a house under the Temporary and Dilapidated House Elimination Program. A new roof, though small, is a solid spiritual support for the whole family as they no longer have to worry about the rain and wind. Thu confided: "The support helps my family reduce some of the burden of school expenses. I am grateful to the teachers for helping me to have more conditions to go to school like other friends. I promise to study hard to not let down the teachers and the school for their help."

With both spiritual and material encouragement from teachers, Kim Huynh Thu (left) has turned difficulties into motivation to overcome circumstances and strive to study continuously.

In the 2004-2005 school year, Quach Pham Bac Secondary School had a total of 430 students, of which 24 were from poor households, 18 were from near-poor households and 2 were disabled. Each situation was a concern and a concern for the school's teaching staff, who had to do everything possible to keep the students in school and not interrupt their education.

Mr. Ho Quoc Can shared: “Previously, the school used to raise money for ferry fares, then pay directly to ferry owners to take students to school. Every year, the school donates bicycles to students living far away to create the best conditions for them to have the means to go to school. In addition to the 300,000 VND that the school supports, the students also receive an additional 150,000 VND for study expenses according to State regulations, totaling 450,000 VND per month, with this amount of money, it will help the students and their families reduce hardships and difficulties. I hope this model will be maintained to help the students change their lives, because only education can help them develop further in the future path”./.
