Speaking at a meeting with officials in Tehran, Khamenei stressed: "The small and limited Gaza Strip has brought the Zionist regime, armed to the teeth and fully supported by the United States, to its knees."
Earlier, on January 15, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. The ceasefire, which took effect on January 19, is the second ceasefire after 15 months of war in the Gaza Strip. The war has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians and left Gaza in ruins.
On the same day, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari affirmed the country's stance on a two-state solution to the Middle East peace issue.
Speaking at a press conference after being asked about US President Donald Trump's comments on relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt or Jordan, Mr. Ansari affirmed: "Our position has always been clear on the need for the Palestinian people to enjoy their rights and the two-state solution is the only way forward... We disagree on many issues with all of our allies, not just the United States, but we work very closely with them to make sure that we build policy together."
Qatar, the United States and Egypt brokered a Gaza ceasefire and hostage rescue deal that took effect on January 19, ending more than 15 months of fighting sparked by a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
