Lao Cai: 975 households have been relocated out of the danger zone.

According to the review results of the authorities, in 2024, the whole province had 17,252 houses affected by floods; damage of about 807 billion VND; there were 403 landslides with high risk of affecting residential areas with more than 5,000 households needing to move their houses to a safe place.

By mobilizing resources, from the beginning of 2025 to now, localities in the province have relocated 975 households to new places of residence (887 households were arranged in mixed arrangements, 42 households were arranged for centralized resettlement, and 46 households were arranged for stable accommodation on site).

On January 6, 2025, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 02/PA-UBND on urgent relocation of residents affected by natural disasters to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. According to the proposed plan, Lao Cai strives to complete the relocation of 4,662 households at landslide or landslide-prone areas that need to be relocated; the capital requirement is about 1,530 billion VND from the central budget, local budget and mobilizing other legal capital sources.

In the period of 2024 - 2025, 3,288 households will be relocated out of disaster areas to 21 concentrated and inter-arranged projects; in the period of 2026 - 2030, 1,374 households will be relocated to 18 concentrated project locations.

Direct support levels for households affected by floods and having to move their houses to new places are implemented according to Resolution No. 5/2021/NQ-HDND dated April 9, 2021 of the Provincial People's Council on investment support policies for rural residential resettlement sites in Lao Cai province.
