Lao Cai focuses on disbursing public investment capital

NDO - On the afternoon of May 5, the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee held a regular meeting for May 2025. Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.

In April 2025, the socio -economic situation in Lao Cai province developed well, agricultural production was deployed promptly, ensuring the time frame. Disease prevention for livestock and poultry was given attention. Food hygiene and safety was focused. The new rural construction program was actively responded to by the people.

Industrial production increased by 6.3% compared to the previous month. Trade and service business activities were vibrant; total tourist arrivals increased by 46% compared to the same period in 2024.

State budget collection in the area was drastically implemented, increasing by 63% over the same period in 2024.

Disbursement of public investment capital has been promoted, with the rate of public investment capital disbursement according to the plan assigned by the Prime Minister to be implemented by the end of April 2025 reaching 43.45%.

Lao Cai is the second province in terms of high disbursement rate, among 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

The cultural and information fields are well implemented; social security work is given attention; education work is promoted; health care ensures good medical examination and treatment for the people.

Security, social order and safety are ensured; foreign relations are maintained; government building and administrative reform have achieved many good results.

However, besides the advantages, the province still has some difficulties.

In the industrial sector, some units have temporarily stopped for maintenance and repair and some units are only operating at about 60-70% capacity due to unstable fuel prices and lack of input materials for production.

It is forecasted that there will continue to be a shortage of raw materials for chemical and fertilizer production (from apatite ore), mainly related to legal procedures, compensation, site clearance, product consumption markets... factories producing high-value products such as chemicals and fertilizers will have reduced output.

The total value of import and export, and the purchase and sale of goods through the border gate decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024, because up to now, durian (a commodity with a large proportion of export value) has not been cleared again.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, acknowledged the efforts of sectors and localities in implementing socio-economic development tasks in recent times.

He requested leaders of units and localities to focus on removing difficulties in site clearance, speeding up the progress of key projects such as: Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project; construction of border bridge across the Red River in Bat Xat area and connecting infrastructure; Sa Pa airport project...

Continue to focus on implementing tasks in the coming time, including focusing on disbursing public investment capital; coordinating well the progress related to the merger of provinces and communes, and ending the activities of the district level; performing well the social security work... This is a key political task, of great significance in promoting socio-economic development in the area.
