Currently, air transport activities in the world have officially switched to the 2024 Winter Flight Schedule (from October 27, 2024 to March 29, 2025) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has granted flight permits to Vietnamese airlines and foreign airlines to operate regular flights in Vietnam.
For international aviation operations
The 2024 Winter flight schedule includes the participation of 4 Vietnamese airlines ( Vietnam Airlines - VN, Vietjet Air - VJ, Vietravel Airline - VU and Bamboo Airways - QH) and 72 foreign airlines with a total frequency of 2,720 round-trip flights/week; of which, Vietnamese airlines reach 1,013 round-trip flights/week and foreign airlines reach 1,707 round-trip flights/week, an increase of 152 round-trip flights/week and 236 round-trip flights/week respectively compared to the 2024 Summer flight schedule.
Vietnamese airlines operate 98 regular international routes to 20 countries and territories, an increase of 6 routes compared to the 2024 Summer schedule, of which Vietnam Airlines operates 60 routes with a frequency of 420 round-trip flights/week, an increase of 41 round-trip flights/week compared to the 2024 Summer schedule. Vietjet Air operates 71 routes with 580 round-trip flights/week, an increase of 110 round-trip flights/week compared to the 2024 Summer schedule.
Foreign airlines from 30 countries and territories operating regular international flights to Vietnam carry passengers or cargo on 124 routes, an increase of 3 routes compared to the summer 2024 flight schedule.

For domestic aviation operations
Five Vietnamese airlines (VN, VJ, VU, QH, and Pacific Airlines – BL) operate 45 routes connecting 22 other domestic airports. Vietjet operates 35 routes with 790 round-trip flights/week. Vietnam Airlines (including Vasco) operates 34 routes with 912 round-trip flights/week. Bamboo Airways operates 11 routes with 130 round-trip flights/week; Pacific Airlines with 11 routes with a frequency of 77 round-trip flights/week; and Vietravel Airlines with 5 routes with a frequency of 49 round-trip flights/week.
Airline schedules
The three international airports (ICs) of Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat and Da Nang are the airports with the highest frequency and intensity of operations.
At Noi Bai International Airport, 04 Vietnamese airlines (VN, VJ, VU) and 44 foreign airlines operate 35 and 39 international routes, respectively, with a frequency of 897 round-trip flights/week, equivalent to the flight schedule for the summer of 2024. Domestically, there are 5 Vietnamese airlines with 15 routes and a frequency of 874 round-trip flights/week.
At Tan Son Nhat International Airport, 04 Vietnamese airlines (VN, VJ, VU, QH) and 45 foreign airlines operate 39 and 42 international routes, respectively, with a frequency of 1,031 round-trip flights/week, equivalent to the number of international routes and an increase of 100 flights/week in frequency compared to the summer flight schedule in 2024. Domestically, there are 5 Vietnamese airlines with 20 routes and a frequency of 1,420 round-trip flights/week.
At Da Nang International Airport, 03 Vietnamese airlines (VN, VJ, VU) and 23 foreign airlines operate 8 and 15 international routes respectively, with a frequency of 364 round-trip flights/week.
Compared to the 2024 summer flight schedule, foreign airlines will operate 1 less route and Vietnamese airlines will operate 2 more international routes; the total international frequency will increase by 6 round-trip flights/week. Domestically, there are 5 Vietnamese airlines with 4 routes and a frequency of 347 round-trip flights/week.
For other international airports such as Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc, international airlines are also stepping up their operations in the Winter Flight Schedule. Accordingly, Cam Ranh International Airport has 2 Vietnamese airlines (VN, VJ) and 12 airlines operating 11 routes with a frequency of 212 round-trip flights/week, an increase of 75 round-trip flights/week compared to the Summer 2024 flight schedule; Phu Quoc International Airport has 11 foreign airlines and VJ operating 11 international routes with 154 round-trip flights/week, an increase of 64 round-trip flights/week compared to the Summer 2024 flight schedule.
Increase exploitation during Tet peak season
In addition to the regular winter 2024 flight schedule licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Vietnamese airlines are developing plans to increase operations on domestic routes to serve air travel demand during peak periods (New Year's Eve, Lunar New Year 2025).
In addition, in order to meet the exploitation plans of airlines during the peak period of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has also carried out preparations such as: creating conditions for airlines to supplement their fleets; adjusting the parameters for coordinating landing and take-off times at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (from January 14, 2025 to February 12, 2025); directing service units in the air transport chain to develop plans, prepare resources, and be ready to serve night time slots.
At the same time, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will monitor the situation of seat reservations and airfares on domestic routes to promptly direct airlines to supplement capacity on routes with high demand, meeting the needs of passengers during the peak period of the Lunar New Year 2025./.
