The province currently has more than 12 million poultry, ranking 12th in the country in poultry farming. However, for nearly a year, the prices of eggs and poultry meat have been lower than the production cost, causing many households in the area to suffer losses, even "breaking up flocks" to reduce the burden of economic losses.
However, there are still many households that are “living well” and developing their herds thanks to product consumption links. A typical example is the family of Mr. Do Van Chung, Hoang Dan commune (Tam Duong), who currently raises more than 3,000 laying hens, earning nearly 2 million VND per day.
Mr. Chung shared: "I started raising laying hens quite early, but before, I mainly raised them in the traditional way, which made the output unstable according to the market, and the economic efficiency was not high. Since 2020, my family decided to switch to raising lead-legged laying hens, and at the same time linked the output consumption with the egg price maintained at 4,000 - 4,500 VND/egg. Thanks to that, over the past year, the price of eggs on the market has plummeted, but the family's income has remained stable and sustainable."
In fact, in the province, there have been many linkage models in raising dairy cows, commercial pigs or New Zealand rabbits... bringing high economic efficiency, opening up new and sustainable directions in agricultural production.
With careful investment and a methodical breeding process, especially linking output consumption, up to now, the New Zealand rabbit breeding model following VietGAP standards of Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang's family, Yen Duong commune (Tam Dao) has helped the family overcome difficulties, rise up to become rich on their homeland, and at the same time contribute to changing the mindset and habits of small-scale breeding into large-scale linked production, applying high technology.
Sharing about the achievements, Mr. Thang said: "Linking production and product consumption is one of the key factors to help develop sustainable livestock farming and bring high economic efficiency. With a barn area of about 1,000 m2, my family is currently maintaining 2,500 rabbits of all kinds, selling nearly 1,000 commercial rabbits each month at 75,000 VND/kg and breeding rabbits at 100,000 VND/kg, earning a profit of nearly 200 million VND/year".
Contributing to promoting sustainable livestock development in the area, bringing high economic efficiency, in recent years, the agricultural sector has strengthened propaganda work, raised people's awareness of digital transformation, supported the construction of safe production and livestock areas in the direction of organic, VietGAP. At the same time, promoting linkages from production to product consumption, gradually forming concentrated livestock areas.
Currently, the whole province has more than 90% of households raising livestock in the direction of farms applying digital technology . Along with that, veterinary work is directed with attention, especially the work of inspection, supervision, disease prevention for livestock and poultry and quarantine of animal transportation and animal products are implemented in accordance with regulations; vaccination for livestock and poultry, disinfection spraying of livestock environment and monthly supplementary vaccination have achieved high results. Thanks to that, the awareness of livestock farmers has changed from passive disease prevention to active disease prevention.
In 2024, there will be no major epidemics in livestock and poultry in the province, creating favorable conditions for the development of the livestock industry. Many new breeds of livestock with high productivity and quality will continue to be put into production; technical advances in livestock farming and biosafety farming processes will be widely applied.
Up to now, livestock farming has formed a number of large-scale concentrated commodity production areas such as dairy farming in communes of Vinh Tuong, Lap Thach, Tam Dao districts; pig farming in communes of Lap Thach, Yen Lac districts; poultry farming specializing in eggs and meat in communes of Tam Duong, Tam Dao districts.
In particular, large-scale farms have applied new technical advances and advanced technology to production to improve productivity, reduce costs and increase product competitiveness in the market. By the end of April 2025, the province's pig herd increased by 2.62%, and the poultry herd increased by 1.55% over the same period. In the first 4 months of 2025, the total output of fresh meat reached nearly 49 thousand tons, an increase of 2.11%; poultry eggs reached more than 288 million, an increase of 3.97% over the same period.
Promoting linkages, removing difficulties for the livestock industry, striving for a growth rate of livestock production value in 2025 of more than 2.4% compared to the same period in 2024, the province is continuing to direct functional departments and branches to strengthen propaganda, support the development and replication of appropriate and effective production models, focusing on developing forms of cooperation, linking production and consumption according to the value chain, applying high technology, ensuring disease safety, contributing to reducing production costs, increasing added value, sustainable development and increasing product competitiveness in the market.
