Long-term benefits of organic durian

BPO - In the context of falling durian prices due to fluctuations in the export market, many households growing this specialty in Binh Phuoc have chosen to cultivate in a clean way to meet consumer demand. A typical example is the Loc Khanh Durian Cooperative in Loc Ninh District, which has chosen to cultivate organically to affirm the value of its products in the current "mixed" durian market.

With nearly 3 hectares of durian ready to be harvested and traders having paid deposits, Mr. Tran Van Hung in Quyet Thanh hamlet, Loc Khanh commune, Loc Ninh district now has the job of taking care of high-quality durians. This is because for many years, Mr. Hung and members of the Loc Khanh durian cooperative have been cultivating organically. “Over the years, the Loc Khanh durian cooperative has coordinated with leading engineers and scientists in the durian field to regularly open training courses and visit each member household to promote organic cultivation. My family has been growing and caring for durians organically for 7 years now. I hope that the authorities at all levels will pay attention so that the cooperative's products can be certified as OCOP to create favorable conditions for durian farmers to trade more easily. Achieving that certification is a very happy thing for me and the cooperative,” Mr. Hung shared.

Mr. Tran Van Hung's durian garden has been grown and cared for organically for 7 years now.

Loc Khanh durian cooperative was established in 2019. During the production process, the cooperative attracted many farmers to participate, and the products also achieved increasingly higher quality. Therefore, the locality has developed the cooperative into Loc Khanh durian cooperative since 2022. Mr. Tran Van Be Sau, Director of Loc Khanh durian cooperative, said: The cooperative was established in 2022, has 19 members with an area of ​​39 hectares. The average annual yield is 20-25 tons/ha. Durian products produced by cooperative members have created prestige in the domestic consumer market as well as export in recent years.

Musa ng king and Ri6 durians of Mr. Tran Van Be Sau's family, Director of Loc Khanh durian cooperative, are trusted and chosen by consumers because they are produced in an organic direction.

Organic farming does not reduce the productivity of the garden but also helps the cooperative members gain a foothold in the current durian market. The cooperative has been supported by the People's Committee of Loc Khanh commune to complete the procedures to recognize the local OCOP product. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Loc Khanh commune, said: Loc Khanh durian cooperative has been producing and caring for durian according to organic farming processes for many years. Currently, the People's Committee of the commune has chosen to register for recognition as a local OCOP product. The procedural documents have been completed and submitted to the district.

For sustainable development, organic and safe production is the right direction, opening up many opportunities for the durian market as well as agricultural products in the current integration period.
