The weightlifting gold medal of young athlete Nguyen Thanh Duy is the first milestone in the goal of 3-4 gold medals of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (from October 22 to 31 in Bahrain).

On October 28, competing in the men's 65 kg category, 16-year-old Nguyen Thanh Duy excelled in the clean and jerk event with a score of 156 kg, winning the gold medal. Previously, in the snatch event, the young athlete from Khanh Hoa achieved a score of 120 kg, only ranking fourth after three strong opponents from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

Weightlifting is also the sport that has brought the best results for the Vietnamese sports delegation up to now, with 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals. In addition to Nguyen Thanh Duy, it is noteworthy that young athlete Y Lien won a bronze medal in snatch and a silver medal in clean and jerk in the women's 53 kg category, while athletes Hung Van The (56 kg men) and Dao Thi Yen (44 kg women) won bronze medals.

Participating in the 2025 Asian Youth Games with a force of 50 athletes in 11 sports (athletics, badminton, muay, jujitsu, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, taekwondo, road cycling, golf, judo), the Vietnamese sports delegation set a target of winning 3-4 gold medals. However, with only 2 days left in the competition schedule, the delegation has little hope of completing the achievement target. All delegations sent elite and large forces to attend the games, causing the balance of achievements to change rapidly.

Apart from China, which is too strong and monopolizes the number 1 position on the medal tally (as of October 28) with more than 100 medals, including 48 gold medals, countries with strong sports in the continent such as Korea (ranked 14th with 3 gold medals) or Japan (ranked 17th with 2 gold medals) all have quite modest rankings, and are unlikely to be able to surpass them at the end of the congress.

The Vietnamese delegation with 1 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals is temporarily ranked 20th on the overall ranking. In the same Southeast Asian region, Thailand shines in third place (13 gold medals), the Philippines in 9th place (6 gold medals) and Indonesia in 16th place (2 gold medals)...

In the last two days of competition, badminton, jujitsu, wrestling, judo, and boxing will all take to the field, hoping to bring positive results for the Vietnamese sports delegation at this congress.
