VHO - After many days of waiting, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation finally won its first gold medal at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG 2025) currently taking place in Bahrain, thanks to weightlifter Nguyen Thanh Duy.

Earlier, Y Lien also won a bronze medal in the snatch event after 3 attempts (2 successful attempts with the highest weight of 82kg). Leading the snatch event was weightlifter Pak Hae Yon with a result of 88kg.

After the clean and jerk and snatch events, young athlete Y Lien won the overall lift with a performance of 188kg, placing second, while Park Hae Yon took first place with 195kg.

However, at the AYG 2025, in weightlifting, the Organizing Committee will only consider the clean and jerk and snatch results to award medals.

Y Lien's achievement further affirms the position and strength of weightlifting as a sport in Vietnam on the continental stage at the youth level, while also creating a favorable psychological momentum for the athletes who will continue to compete in the upcoming days of competition at AYG 2025.

As of now, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won 1 gold medal, 6 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals, temporarily ranking 20th out of 36 delegations in the overall medal standings.
