Wushu and athletics were the two sports that helped the Vietnamese sports delegation win 5 gold medals on December 15th. Athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy opened the gold medal tally for the Vietnamese sports delegation on the sixth day of competition at the SEA Games 33 in the women's 60kg weight class in the Sanda event.
Next, athlete Truong Van Chuong won the second gold medal in the men's 70kg Sanda event. Unfortunately, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi of the Vietnamese Wushu team missed out on the gold medal in the Taolu (performance) event. She performed three routines – Southern Saber, Southern Fist, and Southern Staff – excellently but finished second, with the judges awarding higher scores to the Malaysian athlete.

In athletics, Vietnamese athletes continued to demonstrate their strength by winning three more gold medals, thanks to Quách Thị Lan (women's 400m hurdles); Nguyễn Trung Cường (men's 3000m hurdles) and Nguyễn Thị Oanh (women's 10,000m).
Notably, the gold medal in the women's 10,000m event helped Nguyen Thi Oanh successfully defend her title, which she won at the 2023 SEA Games two years ago, and also helped her make history in athletics at the Southeast Asian Games as the athlete with the most gold medals at the tournament (14 gold medals), breaking the record previously held by her senior teammate Nguyen Thi Huyen (13 gold medals).
On December 15th, although they couldn't win the top prize, the Vietnamese sports delegation witnessed several commendable silver medals. The most disappointing silver medal perhaps belonged to the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, who suffered a dramatic 2-3 defeat against Thailand in the final.

Good news for Vietnamese fans as the Vietnam U22 team also defeated the Philippines U22 team with a score of 2-0 to secure their place in the final and at least a silver medal.
Thus, after the sixth day of competition, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won an additional 5 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals, continuing to maintain its third position on the overall medal table with a total of 40 gold medals, 47 silver medals, and 70 bronze medals.
Indonesia continues to hold second place as its athletes maintain their strong form by winning 13 more gold medals on December 15th, bringing their total to 52 (in addition to 65 silver and 64 bronze medals on the overall medal table).
The host nation Thailand continued to pull ahead of its rivals at the top of the medal table, winning an additional 12 gold medals on December 15th. As of the end of December 15th, Thailand had a total of 145 gold medals, 87 silver medals, and 59 bronze medals.
The remaining positions on the SEA Games 33 medal table are held by Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos, respectively. Notably, after five days of strenuous competition, the Brunei sports delegation made its mark with its first gold medal on December 15th, placing it 9th on the medal table. Currently, only the Timor-Leste sports delegation has yet to win a gold medal.
