Continuing his program to attend the 55th High-Level Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had meetings with leaders, United Nations officials and heads of delegations from various countries.

On February 27, at a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, Minister Bui Thanh Son shared information on achievements in socio -economic development, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and ensuring the enjoyment of human rights for people in the process of national renewal and development. The Minister affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and implements many measures to protect human rights.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights congratulated Vietnam on its first successful year as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term; thanked Vietnam for its meaningful commitments on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; highly appreciated Vietnam's active coordination and support for the Office of the High Commissioner and wished to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto, Minister Bui Thanh Son hoped that the two Foreign Ministries would closely coordinate to promote delegation exchanges, especially high-level delegations between the two countries in 2024, when the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations; and asked Venezuela to facilitate Vietnamese goods and expand cooperation to potential areas such as food security.
Minister Yvan Gil Pinto affirmed that Venezuela attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam, Venezuela's leading important partner in Southeast Asia; agreed on the direction for developing bilateral relations and affirmed that Venezuela is always ready to support Vietnam at multilateral forums.

Meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Pam Damoff, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the development of the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership; stating that the two countries need to continue promoting economic and trade cooperation to new heights, making good use of cooperation potential, especially within the framework of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Ms. Pam Damoff affirmed that Canada is ready to support Vietnam in areas such as peacekeeping, human rights protection and agreed on the two countries to strengthen economic-trade cooperation, investment, education-training, green transformation, renewable energy as well as continue to closely coordinate in international and regional mechanisms.
Previously, on February 26, at a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always values and supports the central role of the United Nations in the global governance system and in addressing common challenges, and requested that the United Nations continue to support and accompany Vietnam in developing the country, as well as supporting efforts to build a peaceful, stable and self-reliant ASEAN community.
The UN Secretary-General thanked Vietnam for its excellent cooperation and support for the priorities of the United Nations, especially in participating in peacekeeping, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, supporting the reform of the Security Council and international financial institutions, especially pioneering in implementing commitments on climate change response, and promised to persuade partners to properly implement their commitments.
At the meeting with President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that under the leadership of President Dennis Francis, the United Nations has made many positive contributions to upholding international law, maintaining peace, stability and development cooperation among countries, as well as supporting the efforts of countries, including Vietnam, to address urgent challenges related to climate change and rising sea levels. Mr. Dennis Francis affirmed that Vietnam has made practical contributions to the work of the United Nations.
Pleased to meet again with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that both sides facilitate the operations of businesses of the two countries, request Iran to support the development and opening of the market for Vietnam's Halal products, and at the same time strengthen cooperation at multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
Minister Abdollahian hoped that the two countries would continue to strive to increase two-way trade turnover to match the stature of bilateral relations; further enhance cooperation in the field of education and training; and agreed to strengthen cooperation, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
At a meeting with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Abugaliuly Nurtleu, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam highly values the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan, Vietnam’s important partner in the Central Asian region. The Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister agreed that the two sides need to promote comprehensive and effective measures to enhance cooperation in many fields as well as support each other at international forums.
Minister Bui Thanh Son also had many short meetings with the Moroccan Minister of Justice, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs... At the activities, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed the common stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on peacefully resolving disputes on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), ensuring safety and security of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.
