The reason Quang Huy suffered a shocking defeat at the SEA Games.

Pham Quang Huy expressed regret over his poor performance at the SEA Games 33. Having missed out on a medal in the men's 10m air pistol individual event, Pham Quang Huy said he felt disappointed that he didn't achieve the results he hoped for, but anything can happen in the final.

"Regarding the men's air pistol event, this result is regrettable. Athletes Quang Huy and Dinh Thanh both failed to perform as expected. In the team event, the three Indonesian athletes were all better than us, so there's nothing to regret. But losing in the individual final is something to be concerned about," Mr. Cuong shared with Tri Thuc - Znews .

The former renowned shooter explained: "Quang Huy has always been very confident in the finals. Today, I also had high expectations for Huy, but in the very first round, he shot two shots too far, so he couldn't beat his opponent. I hope that in the following events, the shooting team will be able to showcase their abilities and collective strength."

Earlier, in the afternoon of December 14th, Quang Huy finished last, being eliminated early in the final of his specialty event, the men's 10m air pistol individual, the very event in which he had conquered the continent. The defeat of the reigning ASIAD champion shocked Vietnamese fans, who had placed a lot of faith in Huy.

Coach Quoc Cuong admitted: "It was really a surprise because I didn't think Huy could be the first to come out, or even the last."

Speaking to the media after his defeat, Quang Huy admitted: "I didn't perform very well, hopefully I'll learn from this experience for tomorrow. In this year's final, my score was lower than in previous finals."

"The final also had many surprises. For example, the Indonesian athlete, who scored the same record in the qualifying round, was eliminated early in the final. Anything can happen in the final," Quang Huy said.

Quang Huy's sharing also reflects a reality in shooting, where even a small mistake can affect the entire performance. In the past, shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh failed at the 2017 SEA Games in the 10m air pistol event, the same event in which he won an Olympic gold medal the year before.

Tomorrow (December 15th), Quang Huy will have his next opportunity in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, partnering with Trinh Thu Vinh. Thu Vinh recently won two gold medals in the 10m air pistol individual and women's team events. Thu Vinh and Quang Huy are two high-level athletes in Vietnamese shooting. Their partnership is expected to bring another gold medal to the Vietnamese shooting team, and at the same time help Quang Huy regain his form.
