The reason Vo Minh Trong was eliminated from U23 Vietnam

According to VTC News , Vo Minh Trong suffered a shoulder injury right from the match against Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This is the reason why the defender born in 2002 was removed from the list of U23 Vietnam preparing for the 2024 U23 Asian Cup finals.

In the 80th minute, Minh Trong collided strongly with Rizky Ridho, causing his right arm and shoulder to hit the ground. He was diagnosed with a shoulder injury. Although he was placed on the bench for the match between Binh Duong and Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Minh Trong did not enter the field, even though he is Binh Duong's number 1 left-back.

Minh Trong's absence somewhat affects coach Hoang Anh Tuan's professional plan. The French coach still has many players who can play left-back such as Phan Tuan Tai (The Cong Viettel ), Ha Van Phuong, Hoang Van Toan (Hanoi Police Club), and even Khuat Van Khang.

However, according to the latest information from coach Hoang Anh Tuan, he will prioritize using Phan Tuan Tai on the left wing, he will not play as a center back in the new tactical system of U23 Vietnam.

The decision of the Khanh Hoa coach received a lot of support. Tuan Tai is not a good central defender but is still a left-back with impressive attacking ability. He plays smarter and more skillfully than his colleague Vo Minh Trong and can provide many new attacking options.

U23 Vietnam will gather from April 5 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team will have 2 days of training before leaving for Qatar on April 8. There, U23 Vietnam will play another friendly match against U23 Jordan.

In addition to competing for rankings, this U23 Asian Cup is also a tournament to determine Asian representatives to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. Specifically, the top 3 U23 teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The fourth-placed team (losing in the third-place match) will participate in a play-off match with the African representative to compete for a spot in France to attend the Olympics.

In the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals, Vietnam U23 is in Group D with Kuwait, Malaysia and Uzbekistan. The two matches against Malaysia and Kuwait will be decisive for coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team. Vietnam U23 will play the opening match against Kuwait, followed by two matches against Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
