If more than two years ago, Mai Dieu Ly impressed with her luxurious, seductive but also youthful and fresh image in Phu Quang's music, then in the new album, Mai Dieu Ly is a wandering, soaring, even somewhat... rebellious Mai Dieu Ly with jazz-inspired works. This project is not only different from the previous album but also a shift in Mai Dieu Ly's artistic emotions.
As a person who loves jazz, Mai Dieu Ly always wanted to release a jazz album to satisfy her passion. However, because the music genre is not popular, Mai Dieu Ly had to temporarily put her dream on hold to pursue music that is easy to listen to and more suitable for the majority.
After many years of accumulating experience and maturing in music, Mai Dieu Ly now believes that she is mature and emotional enough to immerse herself in the ethereal space of jazz – naturally, soaringly and full of personality. She believes that this album most clearly represents the unique color in her music.
"Gio qua mua thu nho" includes 10 songs and 1 bonus track, with songs arranged in jazz tones. Among them, there are 2 Trinh songs performed by Mai Dieu Ly in pure jazz. Mai Dieu Ly said that she chose to sing in jazz tones to satisfy her love of jazz and to reach a wider audience. With an album carrying the "breath of jazz", even people who are not specialized in jazz can listen and feel it easily. She hopes that this way, she will spread her love for jazz to a wider audience.
The album includes: “Afternoon alone through the street” (Trinh Cong Son), “Autumn dry” (Giang Son - poem by Pham Thien Thu), “Grass and rain” (Giang Son - poem by Nguyen Trong Tao), “Sea of memories” (Trinh Cong Son), “Sea dry” (Kim Tuan), “Then like a naive stone” (Trinh Cong Son), “Old beauty” (Trinh Cong Son), “Happy monsoon” (Phong Vu), “Like a flying stork” (Trinh Cong Son), “The old forest has closed” (Trinh Cong Son), and the second version of “Happy monsoon”.
In the album “Wind through autumn memories”, Mai Dieu Ly performed 6 songs by musician Trinh Cong Son in jazz style. These are all famous and familiar songs of the late musician.
“This is an album that Ly loves very much. Ly and the crew want to bring a colorful musical space, with the highlight being jazz sounds. The audience will encounter a very new and different space of Trinh Cong Son's music when placed in modern jazz harmonies,” Mai Dieu Ly shared.
Talking about this choice, Mai Dieu Ly said that she always has a deep love for the lyrics in the compositions of musician Trinh Cong Son. For Mai Dieu Ly, Trinh Cong Son's lyrics are not only music, but also rich in painting - a world full of images and emotions.
Contributing to creating Trinh's music space with the breath of jazz, full of freshness and etherealness, according to Mai Dieu Ly, she appreciates the harmonious and wholehearted cooperation of musician Hoang Trung Duc. Hoang Trung Duc's brilliant arrangements help Mai Dieu Ly express all the ethereal and soaring beauty in Trinh Cong Son's music.
Mai Dieu Ly also shared that she knows that singing Trinh Cong Son's music with a jazz vibe is a bold and daring experiment, but with her love for Trinh's music, she wishes to contribute to expanding the range of Trinh's music to many different musical dimensions, spreading and extending it in modern life.
She also said that in this new album, she has renewed the song “Bien Can” – a familiar love song by musician Kim Tuan in a jazz style. In addition, the album also has two outstanding blue jazz songs by musician Giang Son, “Thu Can” and “Co Va Mua”. In particular, Mai Dieu Ly also introduced to the audience the song “Gio Mua Hanh Phuc” – a new poetic composition by musician Phong Vu, performed in two different versions. This is an exclusive song written specifically for Ly.
In the near future, Mai Dieu Ly still has many plans and aspirations to fulfill to satisfy her passion for music. The female singer revealed that after this jazz album, she will continue to release a new album at the end of the year. Each album, according to Ly, will be a slice of musical portrait - contributing to creating a multi-dimensional portrait of a talented, energetic and passionate female artist.
