Since March 2018, the Social Work and Social Protection Center No. 1 (Group 7, Van Phu Ward) under the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health has deployed a voluntary nursing service model for those who are not eligible for protection but need inpatient care at the Center. The main subjects are the elderly and disabled people who are no longer able to take care of themselves, and are entrusted by their children or relatives to use the service. The fee for voluntary nursing services ranges from about 6 million VND/person/month, depending on each person's ability to take care of themselves.

Currently, the center is caring for and nurturing 32 elderly people on a voluntary basis. Although the number is not large, the model has proven its humanity and practicality in social security work in Lao Cai .

Ms. Le Thi Hong Nhung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Social Work and Social Protection Center No. 1 said: "The new center was invested in by the province with spacious facilities, a green - clean - beautiful campus, cool and fresh air for the elderly to relax. The rooms for those using voluntary nursing services are spacious, closed two-story houses with full equipment, such as water heaters, televisions, air conditioners, fans, etc., ensuring a comfortable living environment. Currently, the voluntary nursing home has 6 specialized staff, well-trained in care skills, health, and psychology of the elderly. The staff work on rotation day and night, regularly examining and monitoring the health and activities of each person."

Most of the voluntary elderly people at the Health Center are weak and suffer from diseases such as memory loss, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc., so taking care of them and providing daily activities for them is quite difficult.

In addition to the dedication of the staff, the center's leaders also regularly check the diet, lifestyle, and treatment regimen, promptly grasp the thoughts and wishes of each person to have appropriate care plans, creating friendliness and sympathy for the elderly.

Doctor Le Thi Lieu, in charge of the voluntary nursing home, Social Work and Social Protection Center No. 1 of Lao Cai province, said: "The staff and I of the center always keep in mind that no matter how hard it is, we will take care of and serve the elderly as our own relatives. Only then will they consider the center as their home and consider the staff as their children and grandchildren in the family to stay with the unit for a long time."

Here, Ms. Nghien is taken care of by the Center's staff in every meal and sleep, shared, kept company, confided her thoughts of old age with her roommates or participated in poetry readings, art performances...

For the elderly like Ms. Nghien, the center is not only a place to rest but also a place to find joy and spiritual values in their old age.

In recent times, the voluntary nursing service at the Provincial Social Work and Social Protection Center No. 1 has been one of the key development areas of the unit, contributing to ensuring social security and building prestige in the field of elderly care in the locality. The center's facilities are currently capable of meeting the needs of 50 subjects.

In order for the voluntary nursing service at the center to create a suitable and meaningful living environment for the elderly, contributing to ensuring social security in the area, the center continues to communicate about the quality of services on mass media and aims to provide professional and high-quality services. Not only caring for nutrition and health, the center also focuses on psychological and spiritual support, rehabilitation and social communication for the elderly, helping them live happily, healthily and usefully.

From small but humane actions, the Provincial Social Work and Social Protection Center No. 1 is bringing a happy old age, full of love to those who have devoted their whole lives to their families and society. This place is not only a common home for the elderly, but also a beautiful symbol of compassion and the spirit of "no one is left behind".
