Reputable transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United are close to securing the signature of 18-year-old center-back Leny Yoro from Lille. The player has agreed to sign a five-year contract (until 2029) with Man Utd, with an option to extend for one year.

According to the Daily Mail, Leny Yoro has flown to Manchester for a medical examination and to finalize some last-minute terms before signing a contract with Man Utd.
To complete this deal, Man Utd spent £52 million, of which they paid Lille £42 million upfront. The remaining £10 million will be paid based on the performance and contributions of the 2005-born center-back.
Thanks to their big spending, Man Utd have beaten Real Madrid in this transfer. The Spanish giants approached Leny Yoro in April but had not yet submitted an official offer to the French club. It seems Real Madrid have quietly withdrawn from the deal following Man Utd's move.
Leny Yoro is Manchester United's second major signing of the 2024 summer transfer window, following striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. The Dutch star arrived at Old Trafford for £36.5 million.
This summer, Man Utd prioritized strengthening the central defender and striker positions. The Red Devils' leadership quickly completed the signings for both positions. This made manager Ten Hag very happy as it gave him more time to work with the new recruits.

Manchester United still intends to add one of two central defenders: De Ligt from Bayern Munich or Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. In the De Ligt deal, the Red Devils could acquire the Dutch defender for £42 million. Meanwhile, they offered £50 million for Jarrad Branthwaite but were rejected.
However, before thinking about signing new players, Man Utd needs to offload some to raise transfer funds. To date, Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala have left Old Trafford. Victor Lindelof and Mason Greenwood are on their way out. Man Utd is planning a complete overhaul of the team.
