MU is not satisfied with the current schedule. |
According to The Athletic , CEO Omar Berrada has been in direct contact with Premier League chief executive Richard Masters to express his "deep concerns" about the club's unusually compressed fixture schedule. The talks are said to have been constructive, but the "Red Devils" have yet to receive a clear response.
In the latest broadcast schedule adjustment, the MU - Bournemouth match at Old Trafford and the away match at Wolves stadium were both pushed to Monday night (local time). Previously, the confrontation with West Ham was also placed in the middle of the week.
This leaves coach Ruben Amorim and his team with only one match to play on Saturday at Old Trafford in the 12 weeks - from October 5 to December 25. That only match is the reception of Brighton in round 9 of the Premier League.
According to the current schedule, United are the only Premier League team to play three consecutive games outside the weekend before Christmas. They play West Ham on Thursday 4 December, visit Wolves on Monday 9 December, before returning to Old Trafford to take on Bournemouth on Monday 15 December.
Not stopping there, the match against Newcastle on December 27 is also likely to be moved to Boxing Day night (December 26), making the already dense schedule of the "Red Devils" even more harsh.

Coach Amorim and his team have a busy schedule at the end of the year even though they are not participating in the European Cup. |
Even the "Red Devils" fans have encountered great difficulties when having to travel to London to attend the match against Tottenham (playing at noon on Saturday, November 8) and the match against Crystal Palace (12 noon on Sunday, November 30). These are the time slots that English fans have complained about because of inconvenience, high costs and lack of transportation after the match.
An insider said the Premier League sympathized with fans, but stressed that this was a new TV rights deal. While understanding the commercial benefits of spreading out the broadcast schedule, MU insisted that the interests of the audience must be put first. Berrada stressed: "We cannot trade the health of players and the interests of fans just for television."
The fact that MU did not participate in European Cup this season should have given them a lighter schedule. However, that has given the Premier League more flexibility in putting the "Red Devils" into matches on Monday nights, because there is no longer a time constraint between cup tournaments.
This week, MU will host Brighton at 5:30pm on Saturday (local time). After the match, fans from London will have only one train to take home, a testament to the real-life consequences of the Premier League's controversial scheduling.
